|David Wayne Cleere|
David Wayne Cleere was born January 27, 1951, in Dublin, Texas, to William Claud and Ethel Ledell (Dean) Cleere. He passed from this life on Saturday, June 29, 2019.
David's family moved to Odessa in February of 1952. David attended Travis Elementary, Ector Junior High, and graduated from Odessa High School in 1969. He also attended Odessa College. David's employment history began in 1961 when he worked as an electrician's helper for his dad. He earned 15 cents per hour and brought a new bicycle at the end of the summer with those earnings. He was a member of the Boys Scouts of America and earned the "God and Country" award in March of 1963. He spent several summers working on staff at the Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch in Fort Davis. He always regretted being two badges short of making Eagle Scout.
David worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken while in high school and was privileged to have his picture taken with the "real" Colonel Sanders. Shortly after high school, he started his career in auto parts sales. He worked a few years in the Chrysler parts division of French Tool & Supply. He thought he always wanted to be an electrician like his dad, so he did that for a year around 1973. Work was slow, and he had two babies to support; so, he went back to parts and spent nearly 20 years as Assistant Parts Manager for Jack Arledge Oldsmobile-Cadillac. When the dealership was sold, he moved around to several parts departments before landing at All American Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge. He worked as Parts Manager there until his retirement in 2018.
In 1977, David ordered a brand-new Ford Econoline Van with everything but intermittent wipers-a fact he never let a good friend forget. For several years, he traveled to Van rallies across the State. His van was in a few 4th of July parades pulling the Vans Across the Mighty Permian Basin (VAMPB) Club's Coors trailer. He tried learning to play an instrument early in life, but never learned to read music. After that, he just played the radio. He loved music though, and attended a multitude of concerts throughout his life.
David was preceded in death by both parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 29+ years, Patricia Abernathy Cleere; aunt, Virginia Cleere Archer; uncles, Otha Hansel Cleere and Max Keel Dean (Karen); sister, Betty Cleere Peacock; daughters, Audra Ann Cullison (Todd) and Rebecca Dawn Cleere; bonus son, Steve Heryford (Mary); seven grandchildren: Allison Brunner (Alex), Quinton Cullison (Ashley), Dustin Womack (Katherine), Ashleigh Ray (Griffen), Jadyn Bough, Kale Heryford, and Jessi Sternadel (Cameron); ten grandchildren: Brynlee, Landon, Greyson, Caleb, Ashton, Kadence, Emmie, Gideon, Aven, and Hudson; niece, Carita New (Derek) and nephew Carl Cleere (Johnna); great-nieces, great-nephews and a whole slew of cousins.
A memorial service will take place at Belmont Baptist Church in Odessa on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
Acres West Funeral Chapel is entrusted with services.
