Billy Don Weathers 2019
Billy Don Weathers

Billy Don Weathers, age 79, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019 in Odessa, TX. He was born Sunday, March 10, 1940 to William and Victoria Wren Weathers in Odessa, TX. 

He learned the value of hard work at an early age by milking cows by hand every morning before school. This idea of hard work and dedication to doing things right would continue to be a theme throughout his entire life, which he also instilled into his sons. He was a firm believer that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right. After finishing school he became a professional bull rider. First, as a member of the turtle association, then the RCA; going to rodeos all over the country. As he got older he began working for Beutler Brothers Rodeo, hauling and working bucking stock and living at the Beutler ranch. Later in life he began driving trucks in the oilfield, owning several of his own trucks. One of his great passions in life was horses. He was a horseman in the truest sense coming from a long line of cowboys and horseman. Another of his passions was his grandkids. He would always light up when they were around and truly enjoyed spending time with them.  

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his sons: Brandon, Will and Cody Weathers; sister: Pat Everett; and seven grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Miranda Weathers; and sisters: Virginia Weathers, Mary Perry and Ruth Sandlin.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mike Bartlett.

Roberto Hernandez Franco

Roberto Hernandez Franco, age 94, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019 in Odessa, TX. He was born Monday, March 7, 1925 in Presidio, TX to Baltazar Franco and Maria Hernandez.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife: Macaria Franco; sons: Juan De Dios Contreras, Baltazar, Conrado, Rogelio, Oscar and Roberto Franco; daughter: Irma Franco Parra; sisters: Dora, Maria Antonieta and Manuela Franco; 59 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Graciela and Olga Franco.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Iglesia Del Dios Vivo. Interment will follow at the Odessa II section of the Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jose Reyes Camacho

Jose Reyes Camacho, age 60, passed from this life Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in Odessa, TX. He was born Thursday, October 9, 1958 in Juarez, MX to Guadalupe Bustos Camacho.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his son: Jose Camacho of Odessa; daughters: Rosairo and Angelina Camacho, both of Odessa; mother; brother: Mario Camacho of Juarez; sisters: Chayo, Lucy, Virginia, Goya and Maria Camacho; and five grandchildren.

Martha Lea Swink 2019
Martha Lea Swink

Martha Lea Swink, age 79, of Odessa, passed from this life on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Las Cruces, NM on March 31, 1940 to Robert Fulton and Beulah Evelyn (Wells) Walker.  She married Presley Swink in Odessa and they had 51 wonderful years together before separated by his death in 2013.

Martha loved to work in her yard, tending to her flowers and growing beautiful roses.  A favorite pastime was going to the sandhills and hunting for arrowheads.  She enjoyed cooking and loving on children.  She was a foster mother to many children over the years and was a loving and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to her beloved grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: Robert Swink and Allen Swink and wife Kathy, all of Odessa; daughters:  Mary Adams and Rebecca Swink, both of Odessa; brother:  Bobby Walker and wife Cathrine of Grapevine; sister: Helen Kirk of Odessa; nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at Northside Baptist Church (100 W. 50th Street) at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

David R Sanders 2019
David Russell Sanders

David Russell Sanders, age 56, of Amarillo, TX, passed away in Amarillo on Saturday, April 20, 2019.  He was born May 31, 1962 in Odessa, TX to Bill and Mary Helen (Bushong) Sanders. 

Survivors include his sons:  James Carl Sanders and Jonathan Matthew Sanders, both of Odessa; brother:  Stephen Ray Sanders of Oregon; nieces:  Susan Cowart of Amarillo, Christi Sanders of Menard, Stephanie Sanders of Oregon and Stacey Sanders of Oregon.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister:  Mary Catherine Sanders; and his nephew:  Scott Sanders.

Memorial services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10:00 am.  Pastor Paul Thompson will officiate.

James Jimbo Scantling 2019
James Irving "Jimbo" Scantling

James Irving "Jimbo" Scantling, age 80, of Odessa, passed from this life at Madison Medical Resort in Odessa on Sunday, April 21, 2019.  He was born in Fresno, CA on July 17, 1938 to the late Henry and Lorine (McKinney) Scantling.  He married Shirley Chandler Scantling in 1990 and they had 27 years together before separated by her death October 22, 2017.  James was a construction worker.  He loved his job and worked until he just wasn't able anymore.

James loved to sing and play guitar.  He enjoyed BBQ, fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys play.  He wanted to have as much family time as possible and loved his grandkids dearly.

He is survived by his sons:  Lee Hart and wife Teri of El Reno, OK and Steven Haven and wife Crystal of Odessa; daughter:  Elizabeth Henderson and husband Dean of Odessa; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife:  Shirley Scantling; and two sons:  Timmy Hart and his wife Belinda and Glenn Havens III.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mike Bartlett.

Betty Ann Thomas Long, 79, of Odessa, TX went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX. She was born April 15, 1940 in Laredo, TX to Frank and Ethel (Bradshaw) Thomas. She married Lawrence Robert Long on October 11, 1957 in Pleasanton, TX. She attended Sherwood Baptist Church for many years.
 
Betty worked for ECISD Transportation Department for 32 years, retiring in 2014. She loved her yard, and her days were filled with tending to her many flowers and plants. She also loved spending time with family and friends. She was an avid traveler, making many trips to visit her family, as well as setting off on other adventures. Her life was filled with a love for sewing, painting, and crafting. Betty always seemed younger than her years, living each of her days to the fullest. She cared for others before herself, always taking care of those she loved. She will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Ethel Thomas, her husband, Lawrence Long, and her great-grandson, Hayden Allison.

She is survived by her son, Charlie Long, and his wife Annette, of Bentonville, AR, daughter Cindy Ponce and her husband Tony, of Cedar Park, TX, and son Robert Long and his wife Glenda of Odessa, TX; 7 grandchildren, Krysta Young and husband Kyle, of Pea Ridge AR, Loren Long of Bentonville, AR, Trey Ponce and wife Rachel of Leander, TX, Amanda Burrows and husband Nick of New Braunfels, TX, Jennifer Allison and husband Matthew of Amarillo, TX, Aaron Long and fiancée Lizzy Blaiszik of Long Beach, CA, and Kaylee Long of Richardson, TX; and 8 great-grandchildren Parson Young of Pea Ridge, AR, Wyatt & Owen Ponce of Leander, TX, and Hunter, Abigail, Hannah, Andrew, & Avery Allison of Amarillo, TX.

A memorial service will be held at Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa, TX at 10 am, Thursday, April 25, 2019 with Wayne Maass officiating.

Dee Lois Stringer was born in Lima, OH to E.L. and Lois Rollins on Wednesday, September 3, 1947. She went to school at Ector High School. She married Ron Stringer in 2000 in Blanco, TX. Dee worked at Dillard’s for 12 years before she and Ron enjoyed doing crafts at the fairs and rodeos for 15 years. She loved cooking and her family. She was a dedicated Girl Scout leader for many years and they all loved her. She will be truly missed.

Dee is preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents: Prentice and Pearl Shaw, and Richard and Frances Rollins.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her husband: Ron Stringer; daughters: Shannon Canterbury, and Shayne Vaught and husband Mark; grandchildren: Ashley Clancey and husband Kelley, Taylor Bolding, and Maison Nutter; great-grandson: Preston Clancey; stepson: Sean Stringer and wife Angela; stepdaughter: Jennifer Stringer; and 11 step-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren; Uncles: Lewis Rollins and Emmett Fitzgerald; and cousins: Donna Fitzgerald, Janet Burchell, Cyndi Ward, Carolyn Boutchyard, and Mitchell Rollins, all of Virginia.

Ninfa Montoya Urias, age 67, passed from this life Sunday, April 21, 2019 in Odessa, TX. She was born Wednesday, January 10, 1952 in Ojinaga, MX to Manuel and Lidia Montoya.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her husband: Armando Urias; sons: Gabriel Urias and wife Sarita, Fabian Urias, Gerardo Urias and wife Melissa, and Ricardo Urias and wife Brenda; mother; brothers: Manuel Montoya and wife Alma and Saul Montoya; sister: Magdalena Montoya; and grandchildren: Sean, Abrielle, Ethan, Vasty, Matthew, Aiden and Trinity.

She is preceded in death by her father.

A Rosary will be recited 7:00 PM Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 pm Friday, April 26, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

David Salinas 2019
David Salinas

David Salinas, age 53, of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Monday, April 22, 2019.  He was born in Lubbock, TX on July 5, 1965 to Juan Salinas Castro and Virginia Torres Castro.  He worked in the oilfield as a pipeliner and was a hard worker.

David liked to wash his truck and watch football.  His favorite team was the Patriots.  He collected antiques and enjoyed barbequing for his family.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his sons:  David Salinas Jr. and wife Jennifer of Odessa and Juan David Salinas and wife Bertha of Brownwood; the mother of his children:  Lupe Josie Espinosa of Midland; brother:  Chuy Castro of Odessa; sister:  Julia Davalos of Dallas; and four grandchildren:  Isaiah, Alfredo, Santos, and Cat.

Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2019, officiated by Pastor Jose Borrego.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her husband: Manuel Fierro; sons: Manuel and Carlos Fierro; daughters: Celicia Guevara and Socorro Zuniga; brothers: Hector Manuel, Ruben, Alberto and Rodolfo; sisters: Lydia, Maria de Jesus and Rosa Emma; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sons: Martin and Ruben Fierro; and brothers: Rodrigo and Jose Payen and Justo Lujan.
