Valentine Flores II

Valentine Flores II, age 77, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in Odessa, TX. He was born Thursday, January 1, 1942 in Karnes City, TX to the late Valetine and Angelita (Alvarado) Flores.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his sons: Valentine III and Alexander Flores of Houston; daughters: Mary Castilllo of Amarillo, Sally Flores of Houston, Elvira Cano and Norma Flores of Amarillo; brothers: Luis and Albert Flores of Odessa; sisters: Adelia Flores and Elydia Barrigas of Odessa; fifteen grandchildren; and thirty-three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will begin at noon on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 5, 2019 until noon. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Mary Ulate Rodriguez

Mary Ulate Rodriguez, age 70, passed from this life Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Monahans, TX. She was born Sunday, October 23, 1948 to the late Jose Garcia and Conception (Ulate) Lerma in Plainview, TX.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her brothers: Manuel Rivera, Rolando Lerma,  Rosendo “Rusty” Lerma and Charles Rey Lerma; sisters: Yolanda Melendez, Anita and Dalila Lerma, and Dilia Saldana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Michael Rodriguez and step-brother: Tony Garcia.

No services will be scheduled at this time.

Maria Bertha Mendoza Diaz

Maria Bertha Mendoza Diaz age 89, passed away Thursday January 3, 2019 in Odessa, TX. She was born Thursday July 29, 1929 in Gomez Palacio Durango, Mexico to the late Anastacio and Ignacia (Gonzalez) Diaz.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her sons: Arturo Mendoza, Salvador Mendoza, Adan Mendoza and wife Lorenza, Enrique Mendoza and wife Alejandrina, Juan Manuel Mendoza and wife Maria; Miguel Angel Mendoza and wife Esmeralda, Roy Mendoza,  Angel Olivo and wife Soila; daughters: Eva Saucedo and husband Telo, Mary M. Duran, Mirna Olivo and husband Jose Reyna, Marie Mendoza Lujan and husband Rigo, Evelyn Olivo; sister: Victoriana Diaz; forty-four grandchildren; eighty-six great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Enrique Mendoza Lozano; brothers: Nicolas Rodarte, Crecencio Diaz Salvador Diaz; grandchild: Thomas Alfredo Saucedo; and great-grandchild: Jose Manuel Saucedo.

A Rosary will be recited 7:00 pm Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at LA Gardens Section of the Ector County Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Maria’s caregivers: Riguin Lujan, Patty Romo, Alejandrina, Maria and Esmeralda Mendoza.

Jeffery U Walker 2019
Jeffery Uhlan Walker Sr. (Jeff)

Jeffery Uhlan Walker Sr. (Jeff) of Odessa, TX (and previously of Kermit, TX), was born June 19, 1963 and left this earth for his heavenly home on January 3, 2019, after a short illness.

Jeff was a truck driver and worked for many companies in West Texas, the most recent being Jones Brothers in Odessa.

Jeff had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. He loved reading and listening to the Word of God and he was a humble man. Jeff had a small circle of friends, who he also considered family.  He loved his dogs:  Dennis, Sister, and Katy, who he fondly referred to as his “kids”. 

Jeff was preceded in death by his mother:  Barbara Marler and his father: Tommy Walker.

Survivors include his son: Jeffery Walker Jr. and wife Lecile, of Odessa, TX; granddaughter:  Adison and grandson:  Clark, both of Odessa; one brother:  Patrick Dennison of Austin, TX; his aunt: Joleta Walker Mangum of Kermit, TX; several cousins; Honorary brother: David Elliott and wife Casey of Odessa, TX; and a few “special friends”.

Jeff’s new home consists being with his parents and grandparents (especially his grandmother, Joy Barnes Richardson), no sickness and no pain, and lots of great food.

Someday he will be welcoming the rest of his family and friends with a wonderful celebration, just as he received upon his arrival to Heaven. 

As Jeff would say “It is what it is.”

A memorial service is pending. 

Benjamin P Farriss 2019
Benjamin Paul Farriss

Benjamin Paul Farriss, age 65, passed away at his residence in Odessa on January 4, 2019.  He was born in Odessa on August 17, 1953 to Vernie R. and Hazel Joy (Todd) Farriss.  Benjamin was a longtime employee at Gun Sport, LTD.  He was also a veteran of both the US Marines and US Army and will be interred with military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. (Services will be announced when details are available.)

Mr. Farriss is survived by his sister: Marilu Blum of San Antonio; nephews: Tim and Adam; niece: Robbie; and two great-nieces: Danae and Scarlett.

Graveside services with military honors will be on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at 9:30 am.

Thomasina Calicutt 2019
Thomasina Denise Calicutt

Thomasina Denise Calicutt, age 35, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Odessa, TX. She was born Monday, November 15, 1983 in Odessa, TX to Arturo Llanez and Angela Denise Calicutt.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her mother; son: Ja’Quincyon O’Shae Green; daughter: Precious Denise Calicutt; sister: Tyeshia Calicutt; nephew: Ja’Quavion Contreal-Earl Calicutt; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a very loving friend: Alice Patton.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother: Lanell Calicutt and great-grandparents: Robert and Pearl Calicutt.

Memorial services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Mary Jane Gaspard

Mary Jane Gaspard, age 85, of Odessa, passed away at Deerings Nursing and Rehabilitation on Monday, January 7, 2019.  She was born in Springfield, IL on June 20, 1933.  Mary worked as a waitress.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her daughter:  Victoria M. Morgan of Odessa; and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband: R. J.  Gaspard; son:  Roy Dean Gaspard; daughter:  Michel Clemmer; sister:  Blanch; and brother:  Clifton.

Memorial services will be at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

O My Heart - Fear not to follow where He leads.  He knows the strength each task demands.  He knows the grace each trial needs.  He's just a little farther along in the dark and lonely way.  His footprints you may trace.  He goes before you all the way.  I Love You.

Miguel Zubia Flores, age 85, passed from this life Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Odessa, TX. He was born Friday, April 28, 1933 in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico to the late Santiago Zubia Contreras and Aurora Flores.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife: Maria Elena Zubia Salgado; sons: Santiago Zubia Pena and wife Carmen, Mauro Zubia Pena and wife Socorro, Miguel Zubia Salgado and wife Guillermina, Samuel Zubia Salgado and wife Linda, and Santiago Zubia Salgado and wife Jennifer; daughters: Gloria Vasquez Zubia and husband Cruz, Guadalupe Galindo Zubia and husband Jaime, Rebeca Galindo Zubia and husband Arnulfo, Maria Regalado Zubia and husband Erwin, and Edith Valenzuela Zubia and husband Sergio; brothers: Juan, Manuel and Nolberto Zubia; sisters: Rafaela Juarez, Maria Gomez, Teresa Montoya, Socorro Sandoval and Eva Madrid; thirty grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son: Ramon Zubia Pena; brother: Jesus Maria Zubia; and sister: Camilla Pena.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Odessa II Section of the Ector County Cemetery.

Kim A Elizondo 2019
Kim Ann Elizondo

Kim Ann Elizondo, age 59, of Odessa, passed from this life on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Kingman, AZ  on April 20, 1959.  Kim married Richard Elizondo and they enjoyed six years together before separated by his death January 8, 2010.  She worked as a phone operator at Basin Answering Service.

Those left to survive her are her parents:  Reta and Sonny Bates of Odessa; six sons:  Warren Barrow, Terry "Eli" Meister, Rick Elizondo, Jr., Tim Smith, Randy Elizondo, and Roy Elizondo, all of Odessa; three daughters:  Maggie Barrow and Talia Barrow, both of Odessa and Lisa Elizondo of Midland; brother:  Stacy Meister of Arizona; and beloved grandchildren:  Braylee, River, Rain, Brennan, Alaina, Haley, Destinie, Alycia, and numerous others.

Memorial services will be held at Zion Christian Church on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Josh Blevins.

Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Santos D Carrillo 2019
Santos Dominguez Carrillo

Santos Dominguez Carrillo, age 72, of Odessa, passed from this life on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Fort Stockton, TX on December 31, 1946 to the late Santos and Trinidad (Dominguez) Carrillo.  He was a pipe inspector in the oilfield and a US Army Veteran.

Santos loved to be outside and work in his yard, and was skilled at making things from wood.  He had a great attitude about life and was very brave and determined.  Santos was no quitter and could complete any goal he set his mind to.  He had a strong faith that got him through a lot.  Saved and baptized many years ago, he had a complete trust in God's will. A happy man who loved to joke and tell stories, his family was everything to him and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Kimbraly Carrillo; daughter:  Sylvia Ramos and husband Joey; son: Ruben Carrillo; brother:  Juan Carrillo and wife Adele; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, his brother:  Albert Carrillo and sisters:  Ofelia Primera and Maria Martinez, all precede him in death.

Visitation will be at Acres West on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10 am to 9 pm.  Memorial services will be at Sherwood Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 10:30 am.
