Bob Rike
Robert Loftin "Bob" Rike

Robert Loftin Rike, age 70, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Monday, November 23, 2015, surrounded by family. He was born in San Antonio, TX on September 26, 1945 to the late Robert A. and Catherine (Henderson) Rike. Bob graduated from Midland High School in 1964 and shortly after joined the Marine Corp.  As a Marine, he served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1969.

Bob served in the Texas State Guard and 20 years as a police officer.  He spent 8 years on the force in San Angelo and, after moving to Odessa, he was an officer in the Odessa Police Department from 1980 until retirement in 1992.  Many stories focusing on his time as an officer were frequently recalled and fondly retold. Bob loved to go deer hunting at his ranch and was a huge John Wayne fan as well. Bob and Lyneia reunited on the internet and they were married in 2004.

Bob leaves behind many friends and his loving family; his wife: Lyneia Rike of Odessa; sons: John Rike and wife Whitney and their daughter Felicity, Matthew Rike and wife Julie and Luke Rike and their families, all of Odessa; and daughter: Carla Arisano and husband Brock of Corpus Christi and their family.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Larry Hood. Interment will be privately held at Fairmont Cemetery in San Angelo.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

BJ Sanders
B. J. Sanders

B. J. Sanders, 85, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born on Friday, May 23, 1930, in Trinity, Texas to James Monroe Sanders and Ella Climie Stephens. B.J. enlisted in the U.S. Army on Monday, February 19, 1951 and fought in the Korean War. B.J. married Winnie Wilma Petit on June 20, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

B.J. was a wonderful father and a member of the Bluff Creek Cowboy Church in Drasco, Texas. He enjoyed playing the lottery and Wahoo and loved building airplanes out of aluminum cans.  B.J. was a hard worker and craftsman who enjoyed wood working. He loved fishing and taking his grandsons with him. Mitzy, his dog was his little princess. He taught his grandsons how to be men and was looked upon by Wilma as her 5th child.

Those left to cherish his memories are one son: James D. Sanders and wife Gayla of Odessa; two daughters: Donna Sanders and Carol Parker both of Odessa; one brother: David Sanders of Andrews; six grandsons, two great grandsons and his princess dog Mitzy.

B.J. was preceded in death by his parents: James and Ella Sanders; spouse: Winnie Wilma Sanders; one daughter: Janette Weddle; four brothers: Boley Sanders, Hoover Sanders, Carvin Sanders, and James Sanders; and one sister: Loretta Petit.

Memorial services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 1:00 pm, officiated by Pastors Daniel Kowacich, Jimmy Dennis and Robert Lemmond.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  

Gina Renteria
Virginia “Gina” Renteria

Virginia “Gina” Renteria, age 53, of Odessa, passed from this life at her residence on November 29, 2015. She was born in Pecos, TX on June 8, 1962 to Agustina (Gutierrez) Renteria and the late Agapito Renteria. 

A strong lady, Gina could be stubborn at times, but she was very family oriented.  Her grandbabies were her greatest love and she crocheted blankets with love for all her family.  She loved Betty Boop, China dolls, and enjoyed cherry blossoms. 

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her mother:  Agustina Renteria of Odessa; son:  Joshua Beseril and wife Amber Orona of Georgetown; daughters:  Jessica Beseril and husband Jacob Madrid, Daniella and husband Jonathan Barrera, Amanda and husband Johnny Mendoza, Gabriella Beseril and spouse Marissa Juarez, and Brandy Beseril and spouse Luis Castillo, all of Odessa; three brothers:  Ricky Renteria of Georgetown, Ismael Renteria of Odessa, and Armando Renteria of Dallas; sister:  Maria Renteria of Odessa; and thirteen grandchildren with one on the way.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Natividad Nieto
Natividad Nieto

Natividad Nieto, age 85, of Odessa, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Sunday, November 29, 2015. She was born in Cuchillo Parado, Chihuahua, Mexico on September 7, 1930 to the late Fidencio Galbadon and Teresa Quinones.

Natividad was a homemaker all of her life. She also helped her husband on the farm planting and caring for livestock. Natividad loved her family and was raised by her mother. Her brother, sister and mother were the most important to her.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband: Miguel Nieto of Odessa, TX; sons: Manuel Nieto and wife Genoveva of Pecos, Anselmo Nieto and wife Teresa of Louisiana, Hipolito Nieto and wife Evangelina of Angelton, TX, Santos Nieto and wife Yolanda of Salt Lake City, Utah, Melquiades Nieto and wife Lorenza of Odessa, Miguel Nieto and wife Margarita of Andrews; daughters: Manuela Nieto and Julian Juarez and Francisco Galvadon, both of Ojinaga, MX, Guadalupe Dominguez,  Silvina Lujan, Rita Arzate and husband Beto, Yudith Jaquez, and  Mirna Garcia, all of Odessa; 35 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Fidencio Galbadon and Teresa Quinonez and two daughters: Panfilo Nieto and Maria Dolores.

Services will be held at a later date in Cuchillo Parado, Chihuahua, Mexico and burial will be at Panteon Cuchillo Parado. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, TX and Funeraria de Valle in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Ruddy Alvear
Ruddy Alvear

Ruddy Alvear, age 54, of Midland passed away at his residence on November 29, 2015.  He was born in Lamesa on December 1, 1960 to the late Ramon and Isabel (Briseno) Alvear.  He was a long haul truck driver. 

He was preceded in death by his mother:  Isabel Alvear in 1994, father:  Ramon Alvear in 2000; and three brothers:  his twin brother, Jimmy in 1960, Ramon Jr in 1978 and Louis in 2009.

Ruddy is survived by two sisters:  Antonia Martinez of O’Donnell and Sylvia Ausbern of Lamesa; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Pablo Salcido Varela

Pablo Salcido Varela, age 84, passed from this life at his residence in Odessa on Monday, November 30, 2015. He was born in Redford, TX on May 26, 1930 to the late Luis Varela and Manuela Salcido. Pablo married Grace McCormack in Odessa on November 1, 1967. Together they raised four children and enjoyed 48 years together.

Pablo was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church as well as an usher. His favorite restaurant was Dos Compadres. He also loved music and fiddling around in his garage fixing things. Pablo was a caring man; he would give the shirt off of his back. He was a family man and loved his wife very much. Pablo enjoyed taking selfies with his granddaughter Amanda, his nickname for her was “La Reina” of the house. His granddaughter Ruby was his “La Gorda”. Pablo loved aggravating his grandson Richard and making fun of “Chavo”.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Grace Varela of Odessa; sons: Luis Olivas and wife Sandra of Belton, TX and Luis Varela of Odessa; daughters: Marla Barrera and husband Alfredo, Himelda Varela, and Nancy Gallardo, all of Odessa; brother: Rolando Aguirre and spouse Maria Luisa of Odessa and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Manuela Varela.

Rosary will be 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, December 5, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Father Joe Uecker and burial will be held at Peaceful Gardens section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
Billie Stillwell
Billie Dean Bradford Stillwell

Our mother was The Proverbs 31 woman.  Billie Dean Bradford Stillwell, 79, passed away at home with her loved ones surrounding her and her precious poodle “Lacie” on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. She was born Thursday, January 9, 1936 in Little Rock, Arkansas to N.W. “Brad” and Hazel Bradford. She graduated in 1953 from Abernathy High School in Abernathy, Texas. She married Johnnie Doyle Stillwell on Friday, July 24, 1953 in Abernathy, Texas and they were married for 37 years. They moved to Odessa, Texas in 1958. Billie was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Odessa. Billie was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandma and great-grandma. She stated to each child, “My heart’s desire is that you come to know Jesus as your Savior”.

Those left to cherish her memories include her children: Mike Stillwell and wife Kristyn of Spring, Carolan S. Goodman of Odessa, Craig Stillwell and wife Brenda of Odessa. Grandchildren: Larry Stillwell of Dallas, Gary M. Goodman and wife Misty of Midland, Brad Stillwell and wife Amy of Odessa, Carrie G. Cox and husband Austin of Rockport, Julie S. Stinson of Odessa, Jeff Stillwell, Justin Stillwell and wife Jennifer of Ft. Worth, Nicholas and Megan Stillwell of Houston, Brian Hokett and wife Lindsie of Alvin; fourteen great grandchildren; nephew:  John Bradford; niece: Ellen Burnett; and her precious friends: Jane Cook, Jo Hafer, Beverly Norris and Frankie Goodman all of Odessa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister:  Margaret Ann Bradford Wolf; brother:  Dee Bradford; and granddaughter:  Jennifer Suzanne Goodman.

The memorial service to celebrate her life will be held, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 10:30 am in the chapel at Crossroads Fellowship Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

HB Ator
Henry Baxter (H.B.) Ator

Henry Baxter (H.B.) Ator, 83 years old, went peacefully to be with the Lord on November 30, 2015 in San Antonio, TX. He was a member of Living Word Baptist Church in Odessa, TX.  He was born on November 6, 1932 in Andalusia, Alabama to parents Thad Ator and Minnie Thornton Ator.  He dropped out of High School to join the Marines and graduated from Brownwood High School after his service was up.  He married the love of his life Ms. Gloria Luck on January 21, 1961 in Odessa, TX. 

H. B. was a parts manager for Cummins Diesel for 35 years retiring in 1995.  He loved being with his family (especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren) and was a loving and funny Papa.   He was an avid fan of Permian High School and University of Texas Longhorn football.  He loved fishing, hunting, bowling, and golf and anything that got him out the house. 

He was preceded in death by his four brothers Austin Ator, Lewis Ator, Robert Ator, & Minton Ator and one granddaughter Jennifer Michelle Martha Brinsfield.  

He is survived by his wife Gloria Ator of 54 years; sister Ann Matthews of Odessa, TX;  one son Michael Brinsfield; three daughters Jannette Anderson, Regina Kasiri and her husband Morad Kasiri, and Diana McGee and her husband Mark McGee,  twelve grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 15 nieces and nephews.

He was a loving and devoted husband, parent and grandparent and he will be missed until we see him again.  We love you Daddy!!

The family will recieve visitors at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Renee Phillips.  Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Tavares Desmond Fowler

Tavares Fowler, age 39, of Odessa, passed from this life at his residence on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. He was born in Hampton, VA on Tuesday, April 20, 1976 to Elbert Dwayne Fowler and Mary Louise Huff.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Annabelle Fowler of Odessa; mother: Mary Kerley of Houston; father: Elbert Fowler of Midland; sons: Andres Castillo and Christopher Fowler, both of Odessa; daughters: Brianna White of San Angelo, Shayna Fowler of Odessa, and Jayla Fowler of Midland; brothers: Dione Morgan of Big Spring, Dadrian Morgan of Houston, and Donnie Morgan of Midland; sisters: Rheenondria Huff of Houston, and Eunique Fowler of San Diego, CA.

A prayer service will be at 6:00 pm on Sunday at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Graveside services will be 10:00 am, Monday, December 7, 2015 at Peaceful Gardens section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  

Carol Edwards
Carol Edwards passed into God's loving arms on December 3, 2015. She was surrounded by family and close friends. She was a smart business woman, known as tough but fair. People came to her for wise counsel. She was a pet lover and a charitable giver. She was a loyal and beloved wife, mother & friend. She will be dearly missed.
Ellis Thurman
Ellis D. Thurman

Ellis D. Thurman, age 66, passed from this earthly life to embark upon his heavenly voyage on Saturday, December 5, 2015, departing from his Odessa home.  He began this life in Mesa, Arizona on March 25, 1949, born to the late Baysel and Linnie Marie (Whittington) Thurman.  Ellis was in the US Navy from 1969 to 1973, serving two years on the US Constellation.  Ellis married Vickie Franklin in Odessa on December 26, 1978.  He was retired from a career in the oilfield working for Phillips Petroleum.

For over 20 years, Ellis’s greatest joy was to be Santa’s helper for hundreds of children.  To keep the children smiling and joyful and to keep the spirit of Christmas alive, was his dream.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you carry on this tradition by bringing clothes, toys, or monetary donations for needy children and the family will donate them in Ellis’s memory.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife of 37 years:  Vickie Thurman of Odessa; son: Shawn Epperson and wife Stephanie of Odessa and their four children; daughter:  Shanna Rennia Geers of Odessa and her children:  Bradley, Bailey, and Samantha; and one great-grandchild:  Bryleigh; one sister and four brothers:  Loretta Thurman of Phoenix, AZ, Donald Thurman and wife Karon of Breckenridge, Alvis Thurman of Arizona, Linley Thurman of Phoenix, AZ and Frank Thurman of Odessa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Monday, December 7, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services with military honors will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Acres West, officiated by Pastor Terry Wright, with cremation to follow services.
