Sammy Delgado Jr
Samuel “Sammy” Delgado, Jr.

Samuel “Sammy” Delgado, Jr., 35, of Midland, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Sammy worked as a welder. He was born on Tuesday, March 6, 1979 in Odessa.

Survivors include wife: Jessica (Rodriguez) Delgado of Midland, father: Samuel Delgado of San Angelo, mother: Lidia Delgado of Midland, son: Samuel Ryan Delgado III of Midland, daughter: Destiny Marie Sanchez of Odessa, brother: Josh Delgado of Midland, sister: Michelle Recio of Odessa, and two grandchildren on the way.

Rosary will be recited at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 4, 2015.  Memorial services will be held at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 10 a.m., officiated by Father Gilbert Rodriguez, followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Lee Ralph Carrasco

Lee Ralph Carrasco, age 47, of Odessa, passed away at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX on Saturday, February 28, 2015.  He was born in Pecos, TX on October 20, 1967 to Lee Ralph Davis and Teresa (Carrasco) Davis.  Lee married Tina Paysinger in Odessa on October 24, 2003.  He was a cook at Pojo’s.

Lee loved his job and was an excellent cook.  He made the best cheese rolls in West Texas and those cheese rolls attracted people from all over.  He was a friendly person, who seemed to know people everywhere he went. He enjoyed playing Bingo and he played even when he was sick.  He also loved music and sang Karaoke.  Every morning, he would serenade Tina with the song, “Good Morning Beautiful.”

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Tina Paysinger Carrasco; two sons:  Marck and Victor Coronado; and mother:  Teresa Davis, all of Odessa.  He is also survived by four sisters:  Barbra Davis of Midland, Mary Jo Davis of Tulsa, OK, Leslie Davis and Louise Coleman.

The family will receive friends at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.  Graveside Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Peaceful Garden of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Rev. David Hamilton.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Anita Beth Love
Anita Beth Love

On February 28, 2015, Anita Beth Love, age 86, of Odessa went to sleep in this world and woke up in Heaven.  Although she had been crippled by arthritis, she had not been sick.  It was just her time to be reunited with her parents: William Ellis and Bessie Alice Anderson, husband: Bill Love, and son:  David Love.  Her heavenly reunion also included her brothers:  Howard N. Anderson, William Ellis Anderson, Jr. and Vernon D. Anderson.  Anita had begun her earthly journey in Eola, TX on April 4, 1928.  She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. 

Anita married Billy George “Bill” Love in Abilene September 10, 1949.  They shared almost 58 years together before separated by his death in 2007.  Bill and Anita settled in sparsely populated West Odessa in 1956, where they responded to the need for a church in that area by opening up their home to fellow Christians.  West University Church of Christ thus began, later moving to its current location.  Bill and Anita were loving leaders in the Church and the community for the remainder of their time on Earth.  She taught Bible classes, while he preached and later served as an elder.   Their loving Christian home was also the firm foundation for their four children, David, Jerry, Kathy, and Debra.  Always there to support her children, she loved them dearly and unconditionally.  A true Proverbs 31 wife, Anita also was the strength behind Bill’s Frama-A-Rama, which they operated until retiring in 1995.

Those left to carry on Anita’s legacy are her son:  Jerry Love and wife Roz of Abilene; daughters:  Kathy Jones and husband Roy of Odessa and Debra Goodheer and friend Jesse of Abilene; daughter-in-law:  Jana Jones and husband Rector of Elizabeth, AR; sister:  Helen Black of Grandfalls; grandchildren:  Joshua Love, Amber Love, D’Wayne Love, Jr., Rachel Morris and husband Todd, Ben Jones, Darin Love and wife Kasey, Dustin Love and wife Lindsey, Timothy Jones, Daniel Jones, Eric Goodheer, and Sarah McCarter and husband Lee; great-grandchildren: Gwendolyn Cupp, Vance McCarter, Elly Love, Lilly Love, Luke McCarter, Adalyn Morris, Gabrielle Love, Josiah David Love, Wyatt McCarter, and Levi Morris.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 6, 2015 at West University Church of Christ, officiated by Bro. Lynn Money.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Grandsons: D’Wayne Love Jr., Ben Jones, Darin Love, Dustin Love, Timothy Jones, Daniel Jones and Eric Goodheer will serve as pallbearers.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences to the family may be sent online at

Johnny Allen Ross

Johnny Allen Ross left this world to be with the Lord Saturday, February 28, 2015.He was born April 15, 1957 in Oak Grove, Louisiana.   He lived in Odessa Texas. He was a rig-up driver and worked for Santa Fe Drilling, RodRic Corporation and Cap Star.

Along with being a fan of the Texas Longhorns, he was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He loved taking them to school and being a part of their activities and most of all hanging out at the pool with them in the summertime.   He had a love for life and thought nothing could slow him down. He loved his nephews and nieces and having them around.  One of the joys of his life was when any of them would ask for his help.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clifton Thomas Ross, Tenie Ross-Woods, Jack and Bertha Hensley. His parents Herbert Allen Ross and Nina Faye Hensley-Ross, one brother, Clifton Ross, Uncle  Johnny Ross (name sake)  and mother -in-law Betty Strackbein.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years Diann Ross, daughters Laura Ross Baker and husband (Waymond), of Midland Texas, LeAnn Ross of Tampa Florida and three grandchildren, Johnathan Beck, Branson Ross and Brooklynn Hawkins (all three were light is of his life).Two brothers Troy Lee Ross and wife (Shaye) of Moore Oklahoma, Jeff Ross and wife(Elaine)  and one sister Cynthia Ross Anderson and husband (Jim) of Odessa Texas, sister-in-law Pamela King of Bayfield Colorado,  Aunt Madge Ross of Oak Grove, Louisiana and Uncle Leroy Hensley and wife (Glenda Sue) of New Boston, Texas. Nephews and Nieces: Traye Ross and wife (Mary), Tye Ross, John Ryan Ross and wife (Jackie), Brandon Ross, Cara Ross, Jason Anderson and wife (Jamie), Shellie Anderson , Kim Anderson, Nathan King, Katie King and Josh Strackbein,  Special girls Dona K, Darlene, Theresa and many cousins and great nephews and nieces.

 Services will be Friday March 6, 2015 2:00 at Acres West Funeral Home, 8115 West University Blvd, Odessa, officiated by Pastor Johnny Touchstone. Visitation with the family will be Thursday March 5, 2015 from 6-8 PM.

Maggie Elmore
Maggie Louise (Jackson) Elmore

Maggie Louise (Jackson) Elmore, age 76, of Odessa, departed this life at Sienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, March 1, 2015.  She was born in Uriah, AL on March 18, 1938 to the late James H. and Sadie M. (Blackburn) Jackson.  She married James Edward Elmore in Oklahoma on April 7, 1956.  He preceded her in death October 11, 2012.  She was a member of the Church of God in Erin Springs, OK.  She was a retired LVN.

Maggie enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and making items for her family. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed singing in her church and at the nursing home when she lived in Oklahoma. An avid reader, she always wanted to know what was going on in the entertainment business as well as reading romance novels. When James was living, Maggie would accompany him on his fishing excursions.  One of her favorite pastimes was playing with her dog, Roxie.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her daughters:  Patricia Haddock and husband Darrell of Odessa and Sharon Pasley and husband Vic of Venita, OR; two brothers:  Lee Jackson and wife Carole of Ft Worth and James “Buddy” Jackson and wife Debbie of Tennessee; brother-in-law:  Charles Lewis of Odessa; three grandchildren:  Crystal Vargas and husband Frank, Michele Haddock and husband Ivan, and Jenney Pasley; three great-grandchildren:  Makailey Vargas, Alex Vargas, and Dakota Haddock; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

She was also preceded in death by a sister Bettie Lewis.

The family will receive visitors at Acres West Funeral Chapel Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Services will be held at a later date in Oklahoma. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Wanda Forbes
Wanda Forbes

Wanda Forbes, age 89, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015 following an extended illness.  She was born October 27, 1925 in Vernon, TX to Farris Colburn and Elsie Mae (Fredenburg) Day. She was a retired owner and operator of Community Grocery in Odessa. 

She was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 43 years of sobriety.  Very sharp, even in her later years, you could count on her to remember important family birthdays and anniversaries.

She is survived by her daughters:  Jeannie Barrett, Judy Laymon and Shirley Standefer-Hardee and husband Mark, all of Odessa; three sons:  Charles Forbes and wife Erica Muńoz of Andrews, Billy Forbes of New Mexico, and Charles Ray Forbes of Pecos; daughter-in-law:  Anna Wooten of Louisiana; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband:  Charlie Forbes; parents: Farris and Elsie Day; son:  Douglas Wooten; brother: Johnny Day; and three sisters; May Joy McDonald, Betty Jo Roark and Jean Bowden.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa with Pastors Dewey Blevins and Carrie Stanton officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Richard T Munguia
Richard Thomas Munguia, Sr

Richard Thomas Munguia, Sr. age 56, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his Odessa home.  He was born in Bayside, TX, on March 7, 1958 to the late Geronimo Munguia and Dominga (Molina) Dirickson.  He married Kathy Michele Bird in Odessa July 31, 1976 and she preceded him in death in July of 2006.  Richard worked for Four Seasons Pest Control, but was truly a jack of all trades.

Richard was a football coach at heart, and was coaching kids even before his own children were born, although he did eventually coach them as well.  He was also a coach for the semi-pro team, the West Texas Shadow.  He played a lot of golf and had many trophies to show for it.  He also enjoyed trips to Possum Kingdom Lake and was always up for a road trip, especially if he could drive his beloved Corvette! His varied interests even included ice sculpting and playing bass.  He was a devoted family man whose grandkids were the light of his life.  He was their “Papa.”

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter:  Mica Michele Munguia of Big Spring; sons:  Christopher Munguia, Richard Munguia II, and Russell Munguia, all of Odessa; three brothers:  Lupe Munguia, Sonny Munguia, and Butch Munguia, all of Odessa; sister:  Margaret Flores of Odessa; eight grandchildren:  Miquela, Jacenda, Alexus, Isaiah, Damien, Adam, Sebastian, and Jaxon; great-grandson:  Stephen; and one great-granddaughter:  Madelyn, on the way.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Richard was preceded to his heavenly home by one daughter:  Monica Munguia.

James Jimbo Hollenback
James “Jimbo” Hollenbeck

James “Jimbo” Hollenbeck, 59, of Odessa, was embraced in the arms of our Lord on March 3, 2015 in Odessa. James was born to Edgar Cody Hollenbeck and Shirley Dee Bice Walden on August 17, 1955 in Superior Nebraska. James was a truck driver in the oil field industry.

Jimbo loved to ride motorcycles. He also enjoyed fishing and driving trucks. Jimbo was a handyman and worked with wood. He made birdhouses in the past. Jimbo was a member of the Last Few Motorcycle Club. He was a big procrastinator, but had a big heart who would help anybody.

Those left to cherish his beautiful memories are his mother: Shirley and Doyle Walden of Odessa, son: Shawn Michael Lee Kern,step- daughters: Patricia Long and Ginger Rogers both of Granbury, four step-grandchildren and one grandson: Cody James Kern.

Jimbo is preceded in death by his wife: Teresa Hollenbeck, father: Edgar Hollenbeck, grandparents and one grandson: Devon Kern.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

Ramon Gomez Alvarez

Ramon Gomez Alvarez, age 71, of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, March 5, 2015.  He was born in Pecos on April 20, 1943 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo and Paula (Gomez) Alvarez, Jr. He was a landscaper. Ramon was Christian.

He is survived by two sons:  Ramon Lorenzo Alvarez of Austin and Charlie Alvarez of Odessa; three daughters:  Belinda Horton of Allen, Christina Zertuche of Midland, and Gloria Rebecca Alvarez of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers;  Jessie Alvarez, Lorenzo Alvarez, Jr., and David Alvarez of Odessa; five sisters:  Linda Ocon and Felipa De La Rosa, both of Odessa, Mary Peńa of San Antonio, Adela A. Tijerina of Odessa; and Loulie A. Gonzalez of Carlsbad, NM; eleven grandchildren and one on the way; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel from 2:00 to 9:00 pm.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Billy R Sanders  Billy Ray Sanders Jr.
Billy Ray Sanders Jr

Billy Ray Sanders Jr., 54 of Odessa, was embraced by the Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Odessa. Billy was born to Billy Ray Sanders Sr. and Carolyn Sisk on October 10, 1960 in Liberty Texas. Billy married Sherry King on May 26, 1993 in Midland Texas. Billy was a cross county truck driver.

There was nothing Billy couldn’t fix he was mechanically inclined. He loved tractors and trucks. Billy’s grandfather put him in a semi-truck when he was fourteen years old. He loved the Lord. Billy loved Sherry’s cheese cakes and became an excellent cook himself. He liked his animals, his dogs “B.G.” and “Chloe” and his cats.

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of twenty seven years: Sherry Sanders of Odessa, mother: Carolyn Sanders of Midland, son: David Ralphard Sanders of Buffalo, WY, daughter: Crystal Dawn Olds and husband Mike of Shreveport, LA., brother: Doug Stanley of Brenham, TX, sister: Brenda Conner and husband Mike of Big Spring, TX, and two grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held in May on their wedding anniversary.
