James E. Melton

James E. Melton, 76, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014, in Odessa, Texas at Medical Center Hospital.

James was born January 3, 1938 in Chiefland, Florida to JB Melton and Lolly Mae Melton. James was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a full time machinist.

Memorial Services will be held at Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Odessa, Texas on Friday June 6, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. 

He married Billie Jean on July 2, 1990 in Odessa, Texas.

Survivors: Wife, Billie Jean Melton of Odessa, Son: David Melton of Crystal River Florida, Daughter: Jennifer Melton of California, Brother: Charles Melton of Crystal River Florida, 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.   

He is preceded in death by his father: JB Melton, mother: Lolly Mae Melton, Sisters: Evelyn Mathis, Joyce Horne, and Lola Deen Parker, Brother: Loyd Melton.

Brandon Alexander Smith

Brandon Alexander Smith, age 41, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at his Odessa residence.  He was born in Odessa on December 30, 1972 to Joe Albert and Dorothy Glenn (Hess) Smith.  He graduated from Odessa High in 1991 and attended Odessa College.  He obtained his CDL and drove trucks in the oilfield.  He was Baptist.

Brandon is survived by his daughter:  Abigail Smith of Odessa, TX; parents:  Albert and Dorothy Smith of Odessa, TX; grandmother:  Marybelle Gaddis of Odessa, TX; grandparents:  Don and Rachel Hess of Weatherford, OK; sister:  Rebecca Smith and her partner:  Jim Dwyer; nieces:  Micah Greenfield and Marissa Greenfield; nephew:  Joshua Greenfield; and Jim’s son:  Ean Dwyer, all of Odessa, TX; sister:  Gabrielle Blye and her husband: Rick Blye and their children of El Dorado, TX; sister:  Bobbie Jo Smith of Vinemont, AL; and brother:  Michael Smith and his children of Odenville, AL.

Funeral services will be 4:00 pm Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, officiated by Brother Clydel Chapman.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Shirley Jean (Johnson) Billings

Shirley Jean (Johnson) Billings, age 63, of Odessa, passed from this life on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at her home.  She was born in Big Sandy, TX on October 29, 1950 to the late Neville Colman Johnson and Dorothy Janette (Mahan) Johnson.  Shirley married David L. Billings in Odessa on February 17, 1975.  She was a homemaker.

Shirley was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church.  She loved her church and her church family.  She enjoyed knitting and dining out.  Having no children of her own, her pets were like children to her.

She is survived by her brothers-in-law:  George Billings and Steve Currie.

Her parents, and husband:  David Billings, precede her in death. David was the love of Shirley’s life and they enjoyed 39 years together.  After his recent passing on May 27, 2014, Shirley was ready to rejoin him in heaven.

No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Eleanor Marie Eastmond

Eleanor Marie Eastmond, age 85, of Midland, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late George and Ellen (Swanson) McGrath.  She was a homemaker. 

She is survived by her son:  George Eastmond of Long Island, NY, daughter:  Kathy Oden of Midland, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. 

No services will be held be held at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Odessa. 

Maria L Martinez 
Maria Guadalupe Luna Martinez

Maria Guadalupe Luna Martinez, age 68, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, June 07, 2014 at her home, surrounded by loving family.  She was born in Miguel Auza, Zacatecas, Mexico on December 12, 1945 to the late Enrique and Fidencia (Gamon) Luna.  She was Catholic.

She is survived by her sons:  Terry Luna and wife Alma of Odessa, TX and Manuel Gerardo Talamantes and wife Elaine of Cactus, TX; daughters:  Janie Sonia Martinez and Maria Martinez and husband Jesse Jaquez, all of Odessa; eleven grandchildren:  Terry Jr., Brianna, Maritza, Alyssa, Leaoness, Cassidy, Robert Lee, Alexis Marie, Sarah, Alberto and Fred; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, and six siblings precede her in death.

Rosary will be recited Monday, June 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 9:30 am at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Father Joe Uecker.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens section of Ector County Cemetery. 

Pat Fox
Patrick Douglas “Pat” Fox

Patrick Douglas “Pat” Fox, age 37, of Odessa, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Brownfield, TX on April 21, 1977 to the late Sam Auther Reed Sr. and Penny Ue (Fox) Reed.  He was an entrepreneur, very ambitious, with a “get it done” attitude in everything he did.

Pat was a positive, laid back person, who was never stressed out.  He loved music, poetry, and laughter.  He enjoyed any comedian or comedienne and was a big fan of the LA Lakers and Texas Longhorns.  A DJ and entertainer, he was also known as “P.A.T. Fox” - the face of “Fox Fam Entertainment”.  Pat was very family oriented and was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle.  Friends and family relied on him for insight and never came across a situation that he could not help with. He was “the man that can!”

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife:  Kamili "Choc" "Nicole" (Jackson) Fox of Odessa; grandmother:  Jean Kelly of Brownfield; three sons and two daughters:  Keshaun Fox, Kevon Fox, Kornell Fox, Ki’ana Fox, and Robesia Sadler, all of Odessa; brothers:  Jessie Reed and wife Tammy of Odessa and Sam Reed and wife Cris of Lubbock; and sisters:  Delorse Ward and husband Demetrick of Lubbock and Samantha Washington and husband Earnest of Odessa.  He was loved and will be missed my many other family members and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Monday, June 16, 2014 at In Living Vision, 525 S. Grandview, Odessa, officiated by Elder James D. Porter.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Carol A Groff
Carol Ann Groff

Carol Ann Groff, 75, went home to her heavenly Father on June 8, 2014.  Carol is the daughter of Robert Welch & Laura O’Dell.  She was born in Norwalk, Ohio and graduated from Milan High School.  She married Charles Groff on June 8, 1957.

Even though Carol lived in Odessa for 32 years, she loved Ohio and always wanted to move back.

Carol was a great cook, having learned from her Grandmother.  She owned Carol’s Catering and Cakes in Norwalk, Ohio and Cactus Café in Odessa, Texas.  She also worked for many years at the Odessa College cafeteria.

Carol worked hard to give her children everything she didn’t have growing up.  She was like a mother to her siblings:  Bob, Vivian, Linda, Chuck and Anita.  Later in life, she got to know her birth family:  John, Karen, Peg, Vernon, and Norman, and her birth mother:  Anne.

Carol is preceded in death by her mother:  Laura Phillips; father:  Robert Welch; step-father:  Charles Phillips; husband:  Charles Groff; sisters:  Linda Leber and Karen Summers; brothers:  Vernon and Norman Morelock; and daughter-in-law:  Nancy “Cay” Groff. 

Surviving her are son:  Ray (wife Kathy) Killian of Freemont, Ohio; daughter:  Kathy (husband Kyle) Blevins; son:  Terry Groff; and daughter:  Charlotte (husband James) Fulfer, all of Odessa, Texas; brothers:  Bob Welch of Wakeman, Ohio, Chuck Phillips of Norwalk, Ohio, John Markwood of Vermillion, Ohio; sisters:  Vivian Knight of Norwalk, Ohio, Anita Meade of Wakeman, Ohio, and Peg Tucker of Vermillion, Ohio; grandchildren:  Patrick Moffit, Dennis Moffit, Rachel Bratten, Damien Groff, Heather Groff, Kristin Killian, Kevin Killian, Chris Fulfer, Zachary Fulfer, Joe Ramirez, JC Ramirez; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Interim Hospice for taking such great care of Carol.

Memorial services will be 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Antioch Christian Church, officiated by Minister Matt Wilson.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Andres Alvarado Magallanez

Andres Alvarado Magallanez, age 80, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Buena Vida Nursing Home.  He was born in Marfa, Texas on Thursday, November 30, 1933 to Damian and Trinidad (Alvarado) Magallanez.  He married Natividad Chacon in Marfa in 1952. He was a construction worker.  Andres was a Catholic and worshiped at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Natividad Magallanez of Odessa; four sons:  Juan Magallanez and wife Hilda, Bernardo Magallanez, and Andres Magallanez Jr. and wife Beatrice, all of Odessa, and Leonardo Magallanez of Austin; daughters:  Maria Delfa Rodriguez and Annabel Chacon and husband Javier, all of Odessa; brothers:  Marcelino Magallanez of El Paso and Benny Magallanez of Austin; sisters:  Margarita Tavarez of Odessa and Angelina Herrera of San Angelo; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and twenty-four great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers:  Anastacio and Eliseo Magallanez; and three grandsons:  Benjamin Magallanez, Javier Chacon Jr., and Jose Diaz.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX.  Funeral Mass will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at 2:00 pm, officiated by Fr. Joe Uecker.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Mary Lou Mitchell

Mary Lou Mitchell, age 60, of Odessa, passed away in Midland at Midland Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, June 11, 2014.  She was born in Orangeburg, SC on July 9, 1953 to Frances Jackie (Blaine) Geiger  and the late Charlie Monroe Geiger.  Mary Lou married Troy Douglas Mitchell in Charleston, SC on August 23, 1975 and they enjoyed over 38 years together.  She was a homemaker whose family was her number one priority.

Mary Lou loved to help people, especially kids.  She volunteered at school, the Compass Academy Charter School, and helped with special needs children.  Spending time with her grandchildren was her delight.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband:  Troy Mitchell of Odessa, daughter:  Kim Nicole Mitchell of Odessa, mother:  Frances Geiger of Charleston, SC, brother:  David Alan Geiger and his wife Karen of Clayton, NC, sister:  Debbie Geiger of Swansea, SC, and two grandchildren:  Ciera Nicole and Hannah Paige.

Memorial services will be 4:00 pm Saturday, June 21, 2014 at New Life Church, 7184 Club Drive, Odessa, officiated by Pastor Tim Halstead.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

J D Pendleton
Jimmy Dale Pendleton

Jimmy Dale Standifer - Pendleton age, 42, passed away on Thursday June 12th at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 13, 1972 in Fort Worth Texas to Jimmy Standifer and Sheila Pendleton. Later he was adopted by his step-father of many years Larry Pendleton. He graduated from Odessa High School then went on to Odessa College and then UTPB where he received his Biology Degree. He minored in Kinesiology and was a student trainer for all three schools.  

He worked for PhyTex Physical Therapy with some of his greatest friends. He loved his job and all of his patients. Anyone who knew Jimmy loved him and never forgot his one of a kind personality. He had a great sense of humor and loved everyone he met. He was a strong independent man who had a heart of gold. Jimmy was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan. He also loved country music, but especially the King, George Strait. His greatest treasure in life was his daughter who he raised on his own for the last 18 years.  

He is preceded in death by his father Jimmy Standifer, aunt Norma Todd, little brother Larry Pendleton Jr., and his nephew Kayden McDonald. 

He is survived by his daughter Kaitlyn Pendleton of Odessa, parents Larry and Sheila Pendleton of Odessa, sisters Michelle Standifer of New Braunfels, Jeridawn Hebert and Amy Thomas of Odessa, Kristal Pendleton, Tracy McAdams, and Michelle Hernandez of Cedar Park,  13 nieces and nephews, and 4 great-nephews.  

Visitation will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel Wednesday and Thursday 10:00 am - 9:00 pm. A memorial Service honoring Jimmy will be held Wednesday at 3:00 pm at Mid-Cities Community Church, 8700 Highway 191, Midland, TX.   

The family requests that all guests wear Kansas City Chiefs or George Strait shirts, or red and gold (the colors of his favorite team).
