Sharon Anne Laform

Sharon Anne Laform, 56, of Odessa passed away Friday, April 5, 2014 in Odessa. Sharon was born to Robert Douglas Kelly and Roberta Louise Kirk in Detroit Michigan on February 4, 1958. Sharon worked as a secretary for several years.

Survivors are father: Robert Kelly and wife Julie of Longwood, Fl., son: Anthony Cesaro of Michigan, one sister: Robin Collins of Odessa, and step daughter: Danielle Miller.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd., Odessa, Texas.

Amanda Marie Salgado

Amanda Marie Salgado, age 23, of Odessa, passed from this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at her home.  She was born in Odessa on January 29, 1991. 

Amanda was a very clean person and a hard worker.  She used these traits to her advantage working as a housekeeper in the motel business. Her positive attitude and high energy were some of her best attributes.  She was a loving and caring mother and loved her family very much.  Amanda loved to spend time with her brothers and her cousin, Vanessa, was her very best friend.  Amanda enjoyed baking desserts, watching movies (especially comedies) and had started to learn to make pottery.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her adoptive parents:  Benjamin and Juanita Salgado of Odessa; birth parents:  Jose Garcia and Melissa Llanez of Odessa; step-mother:  Lori Garcia of Odessa; brothers:  Jose Salgado and wife Claudia, Arries Garcia, and Kevin Kenny, all of Odessa; daughter:  Nydia Marie Gonzalez of Odessa; aunts and uncles:  Miguel Garcia, Ester Garcia, Benjamin Salgado, Jr., and Ricardo Salgado, all of Odessa; cousins:  Joel Johnson, Vanessa Garcia and Aaron Garcia, all of El Paso, and Benjamin Salgado III, Reyna Isabel Salgado and Alexia Michelle Salgado, all of Odessa, and Maria Juana Garcia of Indiana.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Iglesia de Poder y Restauracion, 3002 E. University Blvd. Odessa, officiated by Pastor Jesus Fierro.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Judy I. Cox

Judy I. Cox, age 93, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital of Odessa.  She was born in Cove, Arkansas on November 30, 1920 to the late Jerome Hannigan and Grace Edna (Bell) Fair.  She was a cosmetologist and a member of West Odessa First Baptist Church.

Judy always told others that she was 10 years younger than she really was, even convincing the DMV to change her date of birth on her driver’s license.

Survivors are two sons:  Larry Chad Cox of Odessa and Ricky Howard Hoover of Indiahoma, OK; two daughters:  Sandra Joaquin Metzler of Springfield, OR and Connyee Smith of Odessa; brother:  Ronald Fair of Sallisaw, OK; sister:  Gwen Fair of Sallisaw, OK; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Her parents, her husband, one daughter:  Dana Lynn Erwin; and two sisters:  Opal Wise and Patricia “Patty” Rosson, precede her in death.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the West Odessa First Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Glenn Clark.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Odessa First Baptist Church are appreciated.

Grace Virginia Leonard

Grace Virginia Leonard, 89, of Odessa, passed away on April 7, 2014 in Odessa. She was born in Magnolia, Texas on August 22, 1924. Grace graduated school and college. She worked as a bookkeeper at Sewell Ford for 21 years and taught water aerobics at YMCA while in her 70s. Grace was a Christian; she often said her love and devotion to God came from within.

Gracie, as her friends and family knew her, was a very confident and brave person. She had many friends and never met a stranger. She was a very colorful woman who, at the age of 14, got her nautical license to navigate through the commercial waters of the Houston ship channel, and at the time was the youngest female in history to achieve this. She was an extremely adventurous and outdoorsy woman who loved traveling and absolutely abhorred foul language. She enjoyed hiking anywhere and was not one to let life pass her by. Gracie never panicked over anything. She had animalistic instincts where one would say she could talk to the animals. Grace was a sculptor. She painted china and liked to create moulds to repair antique porcelain dolls. She also refinished antique furniture. Gracie was a member of a clog and tap dance group named the Lone Star Cloggers, who won the SR Olympics gold medal three years in a row.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are sons Jim Carlin of San Antonio, Clay Carlin of Odessa, and Craig and Liz Carlin of Odessa; daughter Lynda Carlin of Richardson; and three grandchildren, Goldwin, Hunter, and Cameron Carlin.

Gracie is preceded in death by her parents, Maxine J. and Florence Tassin.

Viewing will be all day Friday, April 11, 2014.  The family will receive friends and family from 6-8 PM at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 11, 2014. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Lena Pauline Parish

Lena Pauline Parish, age 72, of Oak Point, TX, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at her home.  She was born in Hyman, TX on May 24, 1941 to the late Edward Adolph Lippe and Lena Alene (Burleson) Lippe, but grew up in Odessa.  She was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church and worked as a grocery attendant.

Lena loved cheeseburgers and Dr. Pepper, as well as having a soft spot for Rocky Road and Hershey’s Kisses.  A very special person, you could not find anyone with a bigger heart than Lena.  She loved everyone she met and literally prayed every night for everyone she knew.  She never had a bad thing to say about anyone and would give the shirt from her back to help someone out.  Lena loved her grandchildren and lovingly spoiled them at every opportunity.  Her friends from church were dear to her.  She enjoyed showing the girls there her “bling” every Sunday.   

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother:  Alene Lippe of Odessa; daughter:  Renay Goodman and husband Tony of Oak Point; three sisters:  Laverne Lippe and Barbara Lippe, both of Odessa, and Debrah Coots and husband Jim Bob of Midland; six grandchildren:  Ayren and Anthony “Bubba” Goodman of Oak Point, and Braden, Cameron, Jerod, and Cabot Parish of Crane; and her beloved dog:  Tucker.

Her father:  Edward Lippe and her son:  Jimmy Ray Parish, precede her to her Heavenly home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor John Lyons.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX.

No matter how far or how long, her love will still be with us, whether in spirit, mind, or body.  Shall you ever shed a tear, your angel will always be near.  We will forever keep loving you!

Flora Peña Olivas

Flora Peña Olivas, age 75 of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in San Juan, Ojinaga, Mexico on November 24, 1938 to the late Lauro and Isidora (Nuñez) Peña.  She married Victor Manuel Olivas in Ojinaga, CH, Mexico on July 26, 1960 and they were married over 53 years.  Flora was a homemaker, a loving and caring wife, and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She had a huge heart of gold.

Flora was a hard working woman and an awesome cook.  A talented seamstress, she liked to embroidery and crochet.  She enjoyed watching TV and novellas in her spare time.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her beloved husband:  Victor Olivas of Odessa; two sons:  Jaime Olivas and wife Maria and Leonel Olivas and wife Armida, all of Odessa; daughter:  Manuela Olivas of Midland; brother:  Ramon Peña and wife Valvina of Odessa; sister:  Cruz Ramos and husband Primo of El Paso; ten grandchildren:  Melissa O. Avila, Jaime Olivas, Jr., Victor Olivas, Yoel Peña, Cynthia Peña, Nayeli Peña, Jesus Ramos, Mario Ramos, Selina Olivas and Abraham Olivas; and ten great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be said at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 11, 2014.  Funeral Mass will be 9:00 am Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church officiated by Father Mark Woodruff.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Debra Fay Harrell Kempke, age 48, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Odessa on September 5, 1965 to Franklin Roosevelt Harrell and Lois Darlene (Smithy) Harrell.  She married Rodney Melvin Kempke in Odessa November 11, 1989 and they enjoyed 25 happy years together.  Debbie was an inventory manager.

Debbie was a NASCAR fan and she loved Dale Earnhardt, Jr.  She was in a pool league with her son and loved to shoot pool.  Strong willed and free spirited, she also enjoyed riding with Rodney on their Harley.  Debbie was Savannah’s best friend.  A giving and loving person, Debbie always knew just what to say and put everyone else’s needs first. 

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband:  Rodney Kempke of Odessa; parents:  Frank and Lois Harrell of West, TX; father and mother-in-law:  Dulces and Lupe Mancha of Odessa; son:  Rodney Franklin Kempke of Odessa; daughter:  Savannah Nichole Kempke Helton and husband Justin of Dover, DE; brother:  Billy Edward Harrell of West; sister:  Patricia Darlene Bartley of West; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her granddogs:  Romeo, Harley, and Bailey.

Private Visitation for the immediate family will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 12, 2014.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Elmer “Dave” Adanandus, Jr.

Elmer “Dave” Adanandus, Jr. age 65, of Atlanta, GA, passed away in Atlanta on Thursday, April 10, 2014. He was born in Amarillo, TX on November 2, 1948 to Elmer Adanandus, Sr. and Frances (Johnson) Davis. He was a computer tech.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara Adanandus of Atlanta; mother: Ruth Davis of Odessa; sons: Keiland Riley of Austin, TX, Nashid Adanandus, Trez’vant Mason and Tre’vont Mason, all of Atlanta, GA; daughters: Daveena Benford of San Antonio, Tonya Sutton of Abilene, Tamika Winn of San Antonio, and D’Anisha Adanandus of Atlanta, GA; eight sisters: Evelyn Hall of Flower Mound, Angela Taylor of Lewisville, Frances Jackson of San Antonio, Sandra Babineaux of Ft. Polk, LA, Beverly Adnandus of Watauga, Shirley Arkadie of Odessa, Jewel Curtis and Porsha Waiters, both of San Antonio, and Shirley Stovall of San Angelo.

His son: Dominique Davis, father: Elmer Adnandus, Sr., three brothers: Dwight Adnandus, Charles Bell and Jonathan Adnandus; and two sisters: Ella Gene Hubby and Patricia Adnandus, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Fellowship Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1000 W. Clements, Odessa, TX, officiated by Pastor Ray Hicks. Graveside services will be Monday, April 21, 2014 at 10:00 am at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Vernia Mae Morse

Vernia Mae Morse, age 87, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Comanche, OK on December 14, 1926 to the late John and Edna Mae (Johnson) Jackson.  Vernia Mae was an accountant.   She was a member of Greenfield Acres Baptist Church and volunteered her time at the Senior Citizen’s Center.

Vernia Mae loved country music and animals. She was always taking in strays.  She was skilled at crafts and ceramics and enjoyed making gifts for family and friends.  Generous to a fault, Vernia Mae would have given the shirt off of her back to anyone who asked.  She found numerous ways to demonstrate her love for everyone.

She is survived by her son:  Robert W. Morse and wife Elizabeth of Odessa; daughter:  Barbara Newsome and husband Billie of Plainview; brother:  Michael Mathis of Medicine Park, OK; six grandchildren:  Emily, Robert, Christy, Kimberly, Michael and Corey; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son:  John C. Morse who passed away in 1992, and two sisters:  Pal Smith and Pat Reid.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Monday April 14, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, officiated by Pastor Mike Bartlett.  Interment will be privately held at Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Florentina Adame de Briones

Florentina Adame de Briones, age 85, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at her home.  She was born in Boquilla de San Isidro, Ojinaga, Chihuahua Mexico on October 15, 1928 to the late Vicente and Ines (Lujan) Adame.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband:  Carlos Briones of Odessa; son:  Carlos Briones, Jr. of Odessa; daughters:  Maricela Briones of Odessa, Aracely Briones of Mexico, Socorro Briones of Mexico, Martha Briones, Josefina Briones, and Emely Briones, all of Odessa, Maria de Jesus Briones of Mexico, and Luz Maria Briones and Alma Briones, both of Odessa; one brother:  Vicente Adame of Mexico; twenty grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Her parents, two brothers:  Alfonso and Jesus, and one sister:  Christina, precede her in death.

Funeral Services will be at a later date in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico.  Interment will be at El Ultimo Refugio in Ojinaga.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Funeraria de Valle in Ojinaga.

Teresa Kay Hollenbeck

Teresa Kay Hollenbeck, 56, was called to heaven on April 11, 2014 in Odessa. Teresa was born on June 23, 1957, to Mr. Weldon Holland and Mrs. Maurine Nelson in San Angelo, TX. Teresa was self-employed at Miss T’s, her own cleaning business. She married the love of her life, James Lynn Hollenbeck on September 29, 2000 in Granbury, Texas. 

Teresa was a very outgoing, helpful, and hardworking woman. She loved being around the water, and you would always find herself near water, where she enjoyed fishing and camping. Her favorite color was yellow like the sun and she was a dog lover. Teresa loved life and was always on the go. She enjoyed having her knees in the breeze and her hair in the wind.  She loved and adored her grandbabies, who were her pride and joy. She was loved and will be missed by all.  

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her husband: James Hollenbeck; her father: Weldon Holland of Tolar, two daughters: Patricia Long and husband Greg of Granbury, Ginger Rodgers and husband Chris of Odessa; four grandchildren: Xzavior Long, Zacharia Long, Katelyn Roberson and Justin Chapman; two sisters:  Dianne Smith and husband Roy and Kathy Carter and husband Gary, all of San Angelo; sister-in-law:  Jean Moneyhun and husband Nathan of Paris, TX; and by many Bros and Sis of LFMC. 

Teresa was preceded in death by her mother Maurine Nelson.
