Pia Katharina Mattox

Pia Katharina Mattox , 66, of Odessa , passed away March 7, 2012.  She was born May 16, 1945 in Gmunden, Austria.  She had been in the U.S. Army and was self employed in the cleaning business.

She is survived by two sons: Marcel Mallory of Cranesville, PA and Eric Mallory of Meadville, PA; two sisters: Astrid Lanzendorf of Borken Germany and Miryan Linder of Germany; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother:  Flora Berta Ruth Lanzendorf.

Services are scheduled at a later date.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Glenda Sue Good

Glenda Sue Good, affectionately known to her family and friends as "Glenda, the Good Witch", passed away on March 10, 2012 at her residence in Odessa at the age of 53.  She was born in Cleveland, TN on August 31, 1958 to James and Mary Ballew.  She was married to David Good.  In the past, she had been a manager at a local smoke shop.

Glenda was always happy and loved joking around and never had a mean word to say.  Her motto in life was, “kill ’em with kindness.”  Her family said she was the bravest woman they ever knew and had a heart of gold.  Her favorite pass times were watching “Law and Order” and “Charmed”, doing word search puzzles, and collecting Coca Cola memorabilia.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her mother: Mary Thomas of Woodland Hills, CA; husband: David Good of Odessa; two sons: Buddy McCoy and Matt McCoy and daughter-in-law: Cameron, all of Odessa; sister: Diane Ballew of Saugus, CA; niece: Angela Gonzales of Studio City, CA; and five grandchildren.

Glenda is preceded in death by her father:   James Ballew and sister:  Jimmie Weilbacher.

Memorial services are 12 noon Saturday, March 17, 2012 at River of Hope Christian Fellowship Church, officiated by Pastor Renee Phillips.  This summer, when the snow is melting, she will be returned to God's Earth on Mt. Evans, Colorado by her sons:  Matt and Reverend Buddy McCoy.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Terry Lyn Sweatt

Terry Lyn Sweatt, age 50, of Odessa, passed from this life on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born in Kermit, TX on February 23, 1962.  He was a hard worker and worked for National Gas Services Group as an electrician until prevented from working by his health. 

Terry was a family man, an awesome husband and the best Dad ever.  He loved his family very much.  In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, off roading and 4 wheeling, and watching NASCAR.  He was a member of the Odessa Masonic Lodge #1385.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Porcia Sweatt of Odessa; mother and step father:  Linda and R.V. Nuñez of Odessa; grandmother:  Helen Sweatt of Odessa; five children:  D.J. Moody of San Antonio, twins – Keegan and Kortney Sweatt, Hayleigh Sweatt, and Kassie Moody, all of Odessa; five brothers:  Sean Moore of Ecuador, Bryan Moore and Kim Sweatt of Odessa, Bobby Nuñez and Jerry Nuñez, both of Huntsville; aunts and uncles:  June and Doyle Davis of Hart, TX and Gayle and Billy Logan of Pearl, TX; great aunt:  Peggy Clay of Nara Visa, NM; and brothers-in-law:  Frankie Swan of Mineral Wells and Buddy Swan of Breckenridge.

His grandfather:  Louie Sweatt, preceded him in death.

Candace Marie JoAnn Jones Vick

Candace Marie JoAnn Jones Vick, an infant, of Odessa, was born and returned to Heaven on March 11, 2012. 

Those who will look forward to holding her on the other side include her mother: Londy Jo Jones Vick of Odessa; brother: Johnathan Jones of Houston; sisters: Bobbie Jones of Monahans and Destiny JoAnn Jones of Germany; great-grandmother:  Bennie Lee Wickliffe; uncles:  Phillip Jones and wife Tera Harris, Clinton Jones, and Hitler Joe Jones; and one cousin:  Michelle Jo Preston.

She was preceded to Heaven by one brother:  Baby Jo; grandparents:  Brenda Wickliffe and Jim Jones; and great-grandfather:  Bobby Lee Wickliffe.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, March 16, 2012 at Los Angeles Gardens of Ector County Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Vickie Lynelle Calloway

Vickie Lynelle Calloway, age 46, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 in Odessa.  She was born in Lockney, Texas to John and Sammye L. (Carter) Crosby on Wednesday, February 9, 1966. Vickie and Ricky Calloway Sr. married on Sunday, December 13, 1998 in Odessa. 

Vickie was an active member at Life Challenge Pentecostal Church in Odessa and deemed her family and faith as the most important things in her life.  She worked at ORMC for 25 years and loved helping others.  Her whole day was spent doing for others and helping others. That is what fulfilled her the most.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband: Ricky Calloway Sr. of Odessa; parents: John and Sammye Crosby of Odessa; son: Ricky Calloway Jr. of Odessa; daughters: Tina Calloway and LaTrina Calloway of Odessa; brother: John Crosby Jr.; sisters: Pauline Johnson of Lubbock and Sheena Taylor of Milwaukee; and two grandchildren: JaQuansha Johnson and Jeremiah Howell of Odessa.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Greg Anderson.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Conrrado Contreras

Conrrado Contreras, age 78, of Odessa, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 13,2012.  He was born in Banderas Dist,. Bravo, Chihuahua, Mexico on  February 17, 1934 to the late Luis and Francisca ( Aguilar) Contreras.  He was a retired construction worker.

Mr. Contreras was a dependable, hard worker, who never missed a day of work.  He never complained and was a good friend who treated everyone well.  He was gentle and loving and praised the Lord in all he did, singing hymns to His glory.  He loved to kiss foreheads and give God’s blessing to others.  Some of his favorite things were hamburgers and crossword puzzles. He also loved his animals.  His family was important to him and he enjoyed being with them.  He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory are his four sons: Humberto Contreras of El Paso, Isaac Contreras, Jorge  Luis Contreras, and Francisco Contreras, all of Odessa; six daughters: Estela Contreras, Rosa Maria Granados, Soledad Jasso, Irma Aguirre, Elodia Contreras, and Martha Renteria, all of Odessa; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Iglesia Apostolica de la Fe en Cristo Jesus with Pastor Eliacer Nino officiating.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.   

Richard Keith Secrest

Richard Keith Secrest, 55, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at MCH in Odessa.  He was born May 18, 1956 in Wheeling, WV to Robert Wayne Secrest and Irene Erma (Olah) Secrest.  He served in the U.S. Navy from July 17, 1974 to January 24, 1982.

Richard was very proud of his military career and having been able to serve his country.  After his military service he worked in the oilfield until he injured his neck in an oilfield accident and was unable to work for the past 10 years. He kept to himself a lot but he loved his family, nieces, nephews, and cats very much.  Richard thought of his nieces and nephews as his own and loved his can of Budweiser beer. These are the things that made him happiest in life.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his Mother: Irene Secrest of Zephyrhills, FL; Brothers: Bob Secrest of Kissimmee, FL, John Secrest of SD, Mike Secrest of Tampa, FL, Doug Secrest of TN, and Brian Secrest of Orlando FL; Sisters: Kathleen Secrest of Odessa, TX and Terri Hicks of Zephyrhills, FL.

He is preceded in death by his Father: Robert Wayne Secrest and his grandparents.

The family is having a celebration of life at their family home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 located at 9510 W. Westridge Dr. Odessa, TX officiated by Brother Dewey Blevins. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Stephen Lewis Kinnard

Stephen Lewis Kinnard, 57, beloved husband, father, and friend, died March 16, 2012, at his home in Odessa, TX, surrounded by his family.  The youngest son of Olan “Cotton” and Jackye Kinnard, he was born June 16, 1954 in Portales, New Mexico.  He spent his youth in Burkburnett, TX, where he graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1972. He attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, where he became a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity.

He began his lifelong career in the oilfield chemical business in 1977 when he went to work for NL- Baroid Treating Chemicals.  In August, 1981, he moved with NL to Odessa and began working in the McElroy Field. When NL was bought by Exxon in 1988, Steve made a transition from sales to the Odessa Exxon Chemical Technical Group. In 1995, he moved to Champion Chemicals where he worked as a sales engineer. While working for Champion, he received several individual sales awards.  In 2004, he became manager of the Champion Monahans District and held that position for four years. He retired from Kel-Tech, Inc. in December 2011 after 34 continuous years in the oil industry.  He had a reputation among his peers as a highly skilled technical oilfield chemical man, and he loved his work.

Steve was a sports fan. He followed baseball, football, and basketball. He also enjoyed participating in many sports activities with his family and friends.  He played industrial league softball in Luling and Odessa.  Later, he began to play golf, and he had a large, wonderful group of friends with whom he played.  Over the years in Odessa, Steve participated in many golf tournament charity benefit activities with these friends.

It was while working for NL Treating Chemicals in Luling, TX, that he met Fredrica, his wife of 30 years.  They married in Odessa on February 27, 1982.

Steve is survived by his wife, Fredrica  Kinnard, son Clifford Carpenter and his wife, Melissa of Helena, MT;  daughter Cassandra Dillavou of Lockhart, TX; son Clayton Carpenter and his wife Linda of Odessa, TX; son Craig Carpenter and his wife Valerie of Lockhart, TX;  son Stephen A. Kinnard of Austin, TX;  thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is further survived by his parents Cotton and Jackye Kinnard of Breckenridge, TX; brother Rick and his wife Janye Kinnard of Fayetteville, AR;  sister Martye and husband Ernie Underwood of Breckenridge, TX,  as well as several nieces, nephews, and Kinnard family relatives.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 401 N. County Rd. West in Odessa, TX.  The Reverend Les Jackson will officiate.

Donations to St. John’s can be made in lieu of flowers.


Leobardo Sanchez Calvillo

Leobardo Sanchez Calvillo, age 28, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012 as a result of a car accident in Ector County.  He was born in Ojinaga, Mexico on January 18, 1984 to Ismael Sanchez and Gloria Estela (Calvillo) Sanchez.  He was a construction worker. 

He is survived by his wife:  Yessica Navarrete of Midland; parents:  Ismael and Gloria Sanchez of Odessa; maternal grandfather:  Juan Calvillo of Snyder; son:  Efrain Navarrete of Midland; brother:  Ruben Jaquez of Ft. Worth and sister:  Amy Veronica Sanchez of Presidio. 

Funeral services will be at a later date in Ojinaga.  Interment will be at Ultimo Refugio in Ojinaga.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Funeraria de Valle in Ojinaga. 

Irene Ulate Villa

Irene Ulate Villa, age 46, of Odessa, passed from this life on Monday, March 19, 2012, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Pecos on April 28, 1965 to Arturo M. Ulate and Armanda (Armendariz) Ulate.  She married Luis Villa in Odessa on March 6, 1988 and they shared twenty-four years together.  She worked as a clerk for twelve years at J. C. Penny and Franco’s Liquor for fifteen years.

Irene was a loving and beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend.  She will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband:   Luis Villa, Sr.; her father:  Arturo Ulate; son:  Luis A. Villa, Jr.; daughter:  Armanda Villa Tavarez and husband Octavio Tavarez; one sister:  Irma Franco and husband Fernando; three brothers:  Arturo Ulate, Jr. and wife Maribel, Tomas Ulate and wife Adelina, and Andrew Ulate and wife Daran ; two grandchildren:  Octavio Iram Tavarez, and Ziaira Nicole Tavarez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of Odessa.       

She was preceded in death by her mother:  Armanda Ulate.

Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral mass will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 10:00 am Thursday, March 22, 2012, Fr. Arturo Pestin officiating.  Interment will be at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  

Mario Anthony Kiskaden

Mario Anthony Kiskaden, 36, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 at his residence.  He was born in Alamogordo, NM on May 15, 1975 to Manuel and Fena Kiskaden.  He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

He loved his family very much.  Mario would call his niece, Mireya, “My Little Wifie” because she bossed him around. She made his life special. Mario worked in the oilfield as a roughneck. He loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and March Madness.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his mother: Fena Kiskaden and her companion Reno Duran of Odessa; grandmother: Ramona Padilla of Alamogordo, NM; sister: Sarah Kiskaden and her husband Charlie Millan of Odessa; niece: Mireya Millan of Odessa and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and family.

Mario is preceded in death by his father: Manuel Edward Kiskaden; grandmother: Antonia Kiskaden; grandfather: Eligio Padilla; brother: Manuel Edward Kiskaden, Jr.; and three uncles: Ermie, Gene, and Eddie Padilla.

Rosary will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday March 22, 2012 with funeral services immediately following at 7:00 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  

Eva June Macklin

Eva June Macklin, age 91, of Odessa, passed from this life to her Eternal Home on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in Luverne, MN on October 13, 1920 to the late Floyd M. Clark and Lillian (Godfrey) Clark.  She married Elmer Thomas Macklin in Thurston, NE on May 15, 1946.  They enjoyed 65 years together before separated by his death July 31, 2011.  She was member of the Potter’s House Church in Odessa and a former member of the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa.

Eva was a lifelong teacher with emphasis on special education.  She also taught her children and grandchildren and others around her with her words and her example until the time of her death.  She was a very hospitable lady who was fond of entertaining in her home, serving others food and enjoying conversation and fellowship with them.  She was also an accomplished seamstress who made heirloom quilts.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son:  John E. Macklin and wife Janet of Fremont, NE; two daughters:  Jeanne Ann Whitney and husband Robert of New London, MN and Mary Means and husband Guy of Odessa; brother:  Kenneth Clark of Boise, ID; two sisters:  Ruth Hammel of Middleton, ID and Hazel Burbridge of Odessa; ten grandchildren:  Ann Kingery and husband Tom, Julie Macklin and fiancé Mantez McDonald, John Gomez-Whitney and wife Veronica, Paul Macklin and wife Angela, Clair Martinsen and husband Stefan, Laura Linder and husband Keith, Dawn Struck and husband Naaman, Corey Means and wife Regina, Stephanie Bradley and husband Anthony, and Scott Macklin; and eight great-grandchildren:  Autumn, Mae Anna, Paloma, Whitney, Patricia, Ethan, Ashlyn, and Dakota.

Memorial services in Odessa will be 7:00 pm Friday, March 23, 2012 at The Potter’s House Church, officiated by Pastor Wade Schultz.  Funeral Services will be in Sloan, Iowa at the Community Church of Christ on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 am, officiated by Dr. Emery Killian. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pender, Nebraska.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and to Rush Family Care Service in Iowa. 

Harmon Edward "Eddy" Jones, Jr.

Harmon Edward Jones “Eddy”, Jr., age 65, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born in Lubbock on October 14, 1946.  He was a roughneck in the oilfield.

He is survived by his father:   Harmon Edward Jones Sr. of Mesa, AZ; five children;  sister:  Sue Parsons of Odessa; three brothers:  Alan Jones of Tolley, N.D, Guinn Fugate of Pflugerville, and Shayne Fugate of San Antonio.  

His mother, Cloreene Fugate Jones, precedes him in death.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, Texas. 

Grady Reed Holley

Grady Reed Holley, age 78, of Midland, Texas passed away March 21, 2012 in Big Spring, Texas. He was born in Olney, Texas on November 21, 1933 to the late Howell and Dollie (Butler) Holley. He was a US Army veteran and retired driller in the oilfield.  His motto was, “I just don’t give a damn.”

Grady is survived by his caretaker & loving niece:  Patricia Bryant of Odessa; sisters: Wanda Copeland and husband Gerry of Grand Prairie, and Linda Thurman of Granbury; brothers: Erven Holley and wife Ann of Odessa, and Jerry Holley and wife Charlotte of Greenpond, Alabama; twelve nieces and twelve nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty; son:  Gary Lynn Holley; grandson:  Thomas Holley; wife:  Bertha; brothers: Arvel and Ralph Holley; sisters: Marie Carlisle & Mildred Roundtree; one nephew: Eddie Noseff and a great-nephew:  Jerry Lynn Bryant (Little Buck).

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, officiated by Bro. Bob Porterfield.  Burial will follow in Midland at Resthaven Memorial Park.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Vickie Ann Jones

Vickie Ann Jones, age 56, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Odessa on March 7, 1956 to Harvey Hershel Martin and Empress Toline (Lancaster) Martin.   She married Harold Jones in Odessa in 1977.  She was a loving wife and mother and a strong Christian lady with a deep commitment to Christ.

Mrs. Jones was an artist who had won “Best of Show” at the Ellen Noel Art Show and an author of children’s books.  She had a peaceful spirit and was never angry.  She maintained a positive attitude even in the worst of times.  Vickie enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, but still managed to kill Harold’s tomato plants.  She loved her little weenie dog, Socks.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband:  Harold Jones; daughter:  Ashley Faith Jones; mother:  Toline Martin; brother:  Randy Martin and wife Pam; sister:  Cari Hawks and husband Chuck; nieces:  Taylor Price and Megan Martin; nephew:  Kevin Martin; and her dog:  Socks, all of Odessa.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 26, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
