Jaime Armendariz

Jaime Armendariz, age 72, of Presidio, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.  He was born El Mulato, Mexico on July 4, 1939 to Roberto and Ines (Nuñez) Armendariz.  He was the Pastor of Tabernáculo de Reunion in Presidio.

He is survived by his wife:  Ines (Hinojos) Armendariz of Presidio; three daughters:  Rosalva Vasquez and husband Manuel, Amy Galindo and husband Guadalupe, and Nancy Olvera and husband Jaime, all of Presidio; one son:  Jaime Armendariz, Jr. and wife Ana of Presidio; four sisters:  Manuela Armendariz of Midland, Ernestina Hernandez of Presidio, Irma Muniz of Odessa, and Orilde Sanchez of Chihuahua, MX; three brothers:  Cosme Armendariz of Ojinaga, MX, and Antonio Armendariz and Roberto Armendariz, both of Jal, NM; eleven grandchildren:  Roxanne, Joel, Jaime, Jesse, Eliud, Eloy, Jaime, Isabella, Jaime Alberto, Naiomy, and Genesis; and nine great-grandchildren:  Brianna, Ahzael, Ximenna, Azdiel, Jaime, Joey, Alyha, Yoely, and Briely.

His parents and one sister:  Amelia, precede him in death.

A wake will be held Wednesday evening at 8:00 pm at Tabernáculo de Reunion in Presidio. Funeral services will be at Tabernáculo de Reunion at 10:00 AM Friday, November 25, 2011.  Interment will be at Desert Hill Cemetery in Presidio.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, Texas. 

Evelyn Kolkema

Evelyn Kolkema, age 95, of Odessa, fell asleep in death on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Hospice House of Odessa.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Maurice "Koke" Kolkema, a brother, Donald Crane and a sister, Doris Loughland.

Evelyn was born in Hynes, CA on February 24, 1916 to William and Celia Crane. She graduated from Compton College in 1934.  She married the love of her life, “Koke” on April 17, 1934 in Riverside, CA. Evelyn worked as an executive secretary for Beckman Instruments in Fullerton, CA for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress, designed and sold houses, loved gardening, loved entertaining her friends, and was a seasoned world traveler among other things.  First and foremost, though, was her love and devotion for her family.

When describing Evelyn, words that come to mind are that she was kind, hospitable, generous, witty, loving, feisty, and positive; always having a smile for everyone.  She touched so many lives and will truly be missed by all who knew her. She was one of a kind.

She is survived by her daughter: Judi Cairns of Odessa, TX; two grandsons: Dave Cairns of Midland, TX and Ray Cairns and wife Sheri of Odessa, TX; and two great-grandchildren: Levi Garcia and Kaleigh Cairns of Odessa, TX.

Memorial services will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Kingdom Hall, 3625 West 11th Street, Odessa, TX, officiated by Ralph Gutierrez. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Estal-Lee Lawrence

Estal-Lee Lawrence, 83, passed away at the Odessa Hospice House on Saturday, November 26, 2011. Estal-Lee was born on November 22, 1928, in Tyler, to Thomas D. Veach and Cassie Lorine (Riley) Veach. When Cassie Riley Veach remarried on November 25, 1929, to Samuel Seals Lawrence, Estal-Lee was adopted by S.S. Lawrence. She grew up in the Tyler area, except for one year when the family lived in Texarkana, TX.

Shortly before graduation from Tyler High School, the family moved to Waco, Texas, where Estal-Lee graduated from Waco High School, and while attending a Waco Nurse's Training School, decided she would rather go back and marry Billy Jack Lawrence, from Lindale and Tyler, and remain a Lawrence for the rest of her life.

Estal-Lee, Billy Jack, and their children devoted a number of years to the LKL Ranch and Summer Day Camp in Tyler. Working with children brought joy to their lives. While running the Camp, Estal-Lee traveled back and forth to East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce where she graduated and became a teacher. She taught briefly in the Tyler Public Schools before she and Billy Jack moved to Odessa, Texas where she taught for many years before retiring from ECISD. She then taught in the GED program for Odessa College for a number of years.

Always active in church work, Estal-Lee was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa.

She married Billy Jack Lawrence on December 4, 1948 and enjoyed nearly 63 years of marriage. They had two sons and one daughter. The oldest child, a son, Bruce Wayne, preceded them in death on December 25, 1955.
Estal-Lee lost the love of her life when Billy Jack passed away in Odessa Hospice House on April 15, 2011. Her parents: Samuel Lawrence and Cassie Lawrence also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son: Terry Paul Lawrence and wife Vicki of Lewisville, TX; daughter: Jana Smith and husband Roger of Odessa, TX; sister: Eleanor Sunshine Knowles of Tyler, TX; sisters-in-law: LaWanna Bean of Garland and Ann Jones of Louisiana; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

On Saturday, December 10, 2011, at 11 a.m. family and friends will gather in the Parlor of First Baptist Church of Odessa for a memorial service officiated by Curtis Brewer. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler, TX on December 17, 2011.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Home Hospice for their tender love and care of Estal-Lee during the last few weeks. Memorials may be made to the Odessa Hospice House.

Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Odessa. 


Ester Lujan de Hernandez

Ester Lujan de Hernandez, age 85, of Presidio, passed from this life on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in Ojinaga, Mexico on January 21, 1926.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband:  Raul Hernandez of Presidio; three daughters:  Rosa Valdez of Ojinaga, Elsa Lujan of Presidio, and Lupe Villa of Odessa; two brothers:  Alberto Lujan of El Paso and Filimon Lujan of Presidio; two sisters:  Antonia Licon of Presidio and Bertha Gallegos of Andrews; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be in Ojinaga, Mexico.  Arrangements are under the direction of Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Funeraria de Valles in Ojinaga.

Doris Evelyn Dixon

Doris Evelyn Dixon, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born April 20, 1936 in Dallas, TX. She was a secretary. 

Survivors include her daughter: Mary Busick of Peyton, CO and two grandchildren. 

Her parents:  Charles Baker and Louise (Mann) Baker, precede her in death. 

Services will be privately held.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Norman “Hank” Carroll Lynn

Norman “Hank” Carroll Lynn, age 70, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Regency Hospital in Odessa.   He was born in Wingate, TX on September 24, 1941 to Earl and Ada (Kitchens) Lynn.  He married the love of his life, Linda Searcy, on April 3, 1976 in Odessa.  They shared 35 wonderful years together. Hank was a retired self employed roofer. His grandkids meant the world to him, and his favorite pastimes included Bingo and working on antique cars. Everybody loved Hank when they met him and he was friendly to everyone. 

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Linda Lynn; two sons: Michael Lynn and wife Juliana and Brian Lynn; and four grandchildren: Jasmine, Dayton, Matthew, and Daliana, all of Odessa. 

His parents and brothers: Glenn Lynn, Kenneth Lynn, Dearl Lynn, and Mearl Lynn, precede him in death. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Myra Joan Smith

Myra Joan Smith, age 74, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in Richland County, Wisconsin on June 29, 1937 to William and Hazel Rose.  She was a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, who will be terribly missed.

She is survived by her daughter:  Myrna Rose-Sutton of Wabash, IN; her sons:  Colin Rose of Odessa and Edward Ray Lewis of Childress; brothers:  Jean Rose and wife Gail of Madison, AL, Allen Rose and wife Beverly of Washington, and Norman Rose and wife Sherry of Wisconsin; sister:  Sharon Dressler and husband Lyle of Wisconsin; and five grandchildren:  Shandra Rose, April Rose, Shauntay Rose, Myrna Rose and Tiffany Rayburn; and two great-grandchildren:  Dawn Rose and Darrell Griffin.

Her parents, husband, Howard Smith, one brother, Wayne Rose and wife Sherry, and granddaughter: Melissa Glenn, precede her in death.

Memorial services will be held at Westover Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Mark Harper.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jack Truman Jones
Jack Truman Jones, age 84, of Albany, TX passed from this life on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born in Wichita Falls, TX on November 20, 1927 to Harve and Jessie (Modgling) Jones.  He was a truck driver for many years.

Jack is survived by his step-sons:  Kenneth Farris of Odessa and Tony Jones of Wichita Falls; and one half sister: Lilli.

His parents, wife:  Sue Jones; and his brother:  Jack Jones, precede him in death.

Visitation Services will be Friday, December 9, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel from 7 to 9:00 pm.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Elida Gaitan Lara

Elida Gaitan Lara, age 53, of Odessa, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Odessa Regional Medical Center.  She was born in Ft. Stockton, TX on December 31, 1957 to the late Jose and Benita (Rodriguez) Gaitan.  She was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband of 28 years, Merced Lara of Odessa; daughter:  Rosalia Lara of Odessa; three sons:  Francisco Gonzales and wife Bilma, Jose Gonzales and wife Tammy, and Jorge Gonzales and wife Naomi, all of Odessa; four sisters:  Ernestina Gaitan of Anchorage, Alaska, and Aurora Gaitan, Mary Lou Gaitan, and Olga Hernandez, all of Odessa; fourteen grandchildren:  Jorge Jr., Fabian, Jonathan, Yverica, Brittney, Marlene, Corina, Abigail, Jose Angel, Manuel Ray, Armando, Nevaeh, Reyna, and Jose Mateo; one great-grandchild:  Genesis.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins 

A prayer service will be held in Acres West 24 Hour Chapel Thursday evening, December 8, 2011 at 6:00 pm.   Funeral services will be at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel at 2:00 pm Friday, December 9, 2011, officiated by Pastor Phil Skelton.  Interment will be at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel

Alfredo Rodriguez Aranda

Alfredo Rodriguez Aranda, age 41, of Houston, Texas, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at his parents’ home in Odessa.  He was born in Chihuahua, CH, Mexico on May 2, 1970.  He was an engineer.  We are saddened by the loss of our husband, father, son, and brother and we trust in God to help us to overcome this tragedy.

Alfredo was the son of Alvaro Aranda and Lidia Rodriguez Velasco Aranda of Odessa.  He is also survived by his wife Aracely Rodriguez of Houston; one daughter:  Maya Aranda of Houston; two sons:  Alfredo Aranda, Jr. and Aldo Aranda, both of Houston; three sisters:  Maria Elia Aranda, Martha Aranda, and Hilda Aranda, all of Odessa; and three brothers:  Alvaro Aranda, Jr., Arnulfo Aranda, and Alonso Aranda, all of Odessa.    

Funeral services will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 10, 2011, officiated by Fr. Serafin Avenido.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

James Darrell "Bull" Wilson  9/26/1950 - 12/5/2011 

Bull was a member of The Last Few Motorcycle Club for 38 years. He also co-founded the Outcast MC in 1966. During his years with the club, he served in many positions, including National President, Local President, and Secretary. He was the club historian and documented the many rides and events sponsored by the club. Cantankerous and ornery in many ways, he also had a soft side. He worked tirelessly on club sponsored events such as food drives, toy runs, and benefits for those in need. His infectious smile and laughter will never be forgotten.

He graduated from Permian High School in 1969 and joined the US Marine Corps where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Sharpshooter's badge. He worked as a motorcycle mechanic at Wimpy's Yamaha, Mike's Cycle City with his dad, Golden Coach & Marine, Competition Specialties, & Fun Wheels Yamaha. He was a previous member of the Permian Bass Club, coached little league baseball, & repaired fishing reels

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Lorene "Cindy" Wilson, a brother, SPC 5 Mickey Wilson, and a sister Sandra Buchanan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son:  James “Jay” Wilson and wife Karen of Arvada, CO; daughter:  Haley Worsham and husband Chris of Odessa; son:  Coby Wilson and wife Gwen of Corpus Christie, TX; two sisters: Jean Crum and husband Leon of Dyersburg, TN and Vickie Cox and husband Carroll of Odessa; brother-in-law:  John Buchanan of Odessa; and two grandchildren:  James Mikuel Wilson, Jr. and Levi Dale Reed.

Bernardino Chavira-Ramirez

Bernardino Chavira-Ramirez, of Barrio de Guadalupe, Mexico, age 54, died Monday, December 5, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX. He was born in Tamazunchale, Mexico on April 7, 1957 to the late Justimiano and Atanacia (Ramirez) Chavira.  He was a farm laborer.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Reyna Hernandez of Barrio de Guadalupe; two sons:  Eliel Chavira and Bernardino Chavira, Jr. both of Barrio de Guadalupe; two daughters:  Sandra Chavira Hernandez and Glenda Chavira Hernandez, both of Barrio de Guadalupe; five brothers:  Arturo Chavira, Manuel Ramirez, Ambrocio Chavira, Leonor Chavira, and Evaristo Chavira, all of Mexico; and two sisters:  Carmela Ramirez and Celia Chavira.

Funeral services and burial will be in Barrio de Guadalupe, Tamazunchale, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.  Arrangements in Odessa are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Paul Anthony Gunnels

Paul Anthony Gunnels, age 52, of Odessa, passed from this life on Friday, December 9, 2011, at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Winfield, AL on November 27, 1959 to Junior Robert Gunnels and Nettie (Taylor) Gunnels.  He was an electrician.  Paul married Terrie D. Harrell in Alabama on November 20, 1996.

Paul was a good-hearted, hard working man, who believed in living under the guidance of the Man Upstairs.  He was very smart and a jack-of-all trades – he could do just about anything he set his mind to do.  He enjoyed gardening and loved animals.  The Gunnels family is a very close family and Paul was very close to his kids and grandkids.  He would French braid the girl’s hair.  They always called him “Pop”.  Because he could always be counted on for a quick response to anything they needed, they say that “Snap Crackle Pop” describes him in a nutshell.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Terrie Gunnels of Odessa; four daughters:  Kisty Middleton of Odessa, Bonnie Keneson and husband Jessie Allen of Odessa, Sara Constantine and husband Dave of McCamey, and Valerie Farek of Odessa; two sons:  Robert Dale Keneson and Mikey Lee Keneson, both of Odessa; three sisters:  Vera Hill and husband Terry of Detroit, Texas, Elsie Bates and husband Phil of Winfield, Ala., and Lenora Hubbert of Fayette, Ala.; one brother:  David Gunnels and wife Ann of Hallsville, Texas; and sixteen grandchildren.

John Henry Kimbrough

John Henry Kimbrough, 57 years of age, passed from this earth after a lengthy illness on Friday Dec. 9th 2011, at MCH in Odessa, TX.

He was born in Stanton, TX on July 25, 1954 and was a lifetime resident of Odessa.

He was preceded in death by his father:   B. H. Kimbrough, his mother: Stella Kimbrough, and sister:  Noma Jean Lingle.

He is survived by his brothers: Ted Kimbrough of Odessa and James Kimbrough of Farmington, NM; his daughters: Cissy Kanmore of Hobbs, NM, Misty Kimbrough of Odessa, Belinda Davis of Hobbs, NM, and Jennifer Garza of Odessa; and grandchildren:  Makayla Kanmore, Christopher Kanmore, Kevin Cox, Izeyah McCoy, and Dylynn Davis.

Visitation Services will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory

Wanda Faye Kerce

Wanda Faye Kerce, age 60, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011 at her Odessa residence.  She was born in Alexandria, LA on January 17, 1951 to Dawson L. Smith, Sr. and Faye (Bonds) Smith.  Wanda graduated from Odessa High School and went on to work at the Odessa Women’s and Children’s Hospital (now ORMC).  For the past 11 years, she was employed by ECISD as a bus driver, where she worked up until her death.

Those left to cherish Wanda’s memory are her mother:  Faye Smith of Odessa; son:  Greg Fox and wife Cheryl of Orting, WA; daughter:  Angela Stanford and husband Greg of Abilene; two brothers:  Dennis Smith of Sweetwater and Dawson Smith, Jr. of Odessa; and four beloved grandchildren:  Spencer Davis, Sterling Davis, Breland Fox and Stratton Fox.

Her father preceded her in death in 2001.

Per Wanda’s request, no services will be held.  We will continually honor her memory in our hearts.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

“Richy” Campos

Ricardo Salcido “Richy” Campos, age 25, of Odessa, passed from this life on December 10, 2011 in Odessa.  Richy was born in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico on July 27, 1986 to Leonel Ignacio Campos and Marcela (Salcido) Campos.  He graduated from Kermit High School in 2004 where he met his high school sweetheart, his beloved wife:  Lupita (Nino) Campos.  Richy worked for Key Energy as a floor hand for the past couple of years.  He was a very happy, cheerful person – full of life.  He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, and uncle and will be dearly missed.

Richy was welcomed in Heaven by his grandparents:  Manuel Campos and Manuela Rodriguez Campos, and his uncle:  Daniel Salcido.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife:  Lupita Campos of Odessa; sons:  Ricardo Omero Campos and Oziel Campos, both of Odessa; father:  Leonel Campos of Kermit; mother:  Marcela Salcido of Midland; maternal grandparents:  Enrique Salcido and Juanita M. Salcido of Andrews; two brothers:  Noel Campos of Midland and Leonel Campos and wife Naomi of Odessa, and their children:  Bianca, Viviana, and Leonel Jr. Campos; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rosary will be said 7:30 pm Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Serafin Avenido.  Funeral services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.   

Kathy Martinez

Kathy Martinez, age 49, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at her home in Odessa, Texas.  Kathy was born to Stanley Cunningham, Jr. and Donna Jean (Davis) Cunningham on March 4, 1962 in Melrose Park, IL.  She was a homemaker; beloved wife, mother and grandmother. 

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband Jose Carlos Martinez of Odessa; five daughters:  Shannon Urbina of Northlake, IL, Angelica Alipizar of Chicago, IL, and Stephanie Perina, Jessica Martinez Duarte, and Maria Martinez, all of Odessa; one son:  Carlos Martinez of Chicago, IL; her mother:  Donna Jean Cunningham of Northlake, IL; one sister:  Connie Earnest of Northlake, IL; and ten grandchildren:  Alex Urbina, Ruben Granados, Leandra Granados, Jaelyn Olivarez, Eduardo Alipizar, Erik Duarte, Felix Granados, Addisyn Olivarez, Estrella Martinez, and Angella Alipizar.

Visitation services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, Texas.
