Edna Rhoda (Gibbons) Barber, age 76, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at her Odessa residence. She was born in Tulsa, OK on October 9, 1933 to Charles E. and Clennie (Webb) Gibbons. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband: Jim Barber of Odessa; two daughters: Linda Martin of Big Spring and Brenda Gordon of Denver, Colo.; one son: Scott Barber of Odessa; one sister: Virginia Frankfather of Sapulpa, Okla.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 1st Church of the Nazarene, officiated by Pastor Terry Pierce. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
|Walt Alson Bailey|
Walt Alson Bailey age 64 passed away after a sudden illness at home on Saturday, June 12, 2010. Walt was born in Gladewater, Texas on July 7, 1945 to Walter Leroy Bailey and Lenora Irene Callaway Mackey Bailey. Walt traveled around West Texas in his younger years with his parents following the drilling rigs. Walt attended school at Lamar, Crockett and Odessa High. He also went to Odessa College.
Walt in his younger years was said to be a rounder by his family and friends. Dragged race on the streets and for a while until he met his future wife Omega Daphine Goforth Bailey on September 1, 1965 made his living as a pool player.
Walt served in the National Guard and did his training at Fort Ord in California. He was a truck driver and a 155 Houser gunnery sergeant
Walt and Daphine were married on June 10. 1966 at Greenfield Acres Baptist Church with the Rev. James Cooper officiating. (Walt was the first and only blind date Daphine had ever gone on). They celebrated their 44 th wedding anniversary on Thursday June 10, 2010. Of this marriage 2 sons were born Tracy Scott Bailey and Stacy Todd Bailey.
Walt worked as a field mechanic for Kobe which became Trico Kobe and later became Weatherford. Later he went in to truck driving and did hot shot and then started driving the “Big Rig”. He drove for Acme Truck and was working at Dale Meyers Trucking and had just come in Friday night from hauling a load from Houston.
Walt was a simple man who had rather stay home with his family as much as possible. He loved his son and really loved his 2 granddaughters. He was very proud of all both had accomplished. He was especially proud that he was able to attend both granddaughters’ graduation in May as they graduated from elementary with honor and Permian High with honors.
Walt and Daphine had a third son who was adopted Staff Sergeant Danny Neighbors who is stationed in Germany. Walt was very proud of Danny and what he is doing for our country.
Walt was preceded in death by his father Walter Bailey, his mother Lenora Bailey and his half brother J. B. Mackey and his oldest son Tracy Scott Bailey.
He is survived by his wife Omega Daphine Goforth Bailey of Odessa, son Stacy Todd Bailey and wife Amy of Odessa, and his adopted son Danny Neighbors of Germany. Walt is also survived by his “Pride and Joys” his two granddaughters Brittany Bailey and Katy Bailey of Odessa.The family will hold visitation on Tuesday June 15, 2010 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. at Acres West Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday June 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.at Chapel Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangement are under the direction of Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Grace Eunice Norrid, age 86, passed from this life on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Deerings Nursing Center in Odessa. She was born in Amarillo, TX on November 10, 1923 to George and Grace (Henry) Turner. She was a retired self employed bookkeeper for Norrid Reproduction and Printing Company.
Grace was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved china painting and was past President of the Permian Basin Porcelain Art Club. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church for the past year, previously a member of 2nd Baptist Church of Midland.
Those left to cherish her love and memory include her husband: Don Norrid of Odessa; son: Larry Norrid and wife Sue of Odessa; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Her beloved daughter: Dinah Paris and her parents: George and Grace Turner, precede her in death.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 am Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Sherwood Baptist Church, 505 E. 42nd Street, officiated by Pastor Ivy Shelton. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Miguel Angel Ortiz, age 29, of Arcadia, Fla., died Saturday, June 12, 2010. He was born to Antonio Ortiz and Josefina (Jimenez) Ortiz in Andrews, TX on February 28, 1981.
His parents survive him. He is also survived by three sisters: Bertha Jaramillo and Sandra Candia, both of Odessa, and Minerva Gonzalez of Arcadia, Fla.; and two brothers: Marco Antonio Ortiz of Del Rio and Andres Ortiz of Arcadia, Fla.
Funeral services in Florida will be 6:00 pm Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Arcadia, officiated by Pastor Rincon. Local funeral services will be at Agape Ministries Dream Center at 10:00 AM Monday, June 21, 2010, Pedro Emiliano officiating. Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery. passed away on Thursday, June
17, 2010, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born in Ojinaga,
Chihuahua, Mexico on October 4, 1937 to Crisantos and Carlota
(Carrasco) Tavarez. He was
a construction worker. He was Catholic.
He is survived by four daughters: Maria Tavarez, Lupita Tavarez, and America Tavarez, all of Odessa and Norma Tavarez of Chihuahua, MX; two sons: Armando Borras Tavarez of Odessa and Luis Alfonso Tavarez of Ojinaga, MX; three sisters: Librada Tavarez of Kansas, Pilar Tavarez of Odessa, and Elda Tavarez of Benavides, CH, MX; seven brothers: Eugenio Tavarez, Lupe Tavarez, Carlos Tavarez, and Huber Tavarez, all of Fort Stockton, Efrain Tavarez and Ruben Tavarez, both of Midland, and Crisantos Tavarez of Ojinaga, CH, MX; 18 grandchildren: Lluvia, Yuri, Armando, Marcos, Andrea, Olivia, Cecilia, Juan, Jose, Diana, Tania, Alejandrina, Kim, Ariel, Kenya, Edsel, Jerilin, and Alex and 6 great-grandchildren: Ivan, Jorge, Alex, Adam, Emely, and Armando.

Antonio Villa “Uncle Tony”, age 59, passed away unexpectedly on Monday,
June 21, 2010 in Odessa.
He was born in Martin County, Texas on Tuesday, July 18, 1950 to the
late Julian Cruz Villa and Matilde (Arciaga) Villa.
He worked as a mover and was a member of the Catholic Church.

Montie Dee (Terrell) Hamby, age 47, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at her residence in Odessa. She was born in Denton, TX on May 23, 1963 to Gerald and Charlotte (Morgan) Terrell. She was a registered nurse.
Montie was a mother hen to everyone, always taking care of everyone around her. She was a loving and giving person. She was devoted to her family, considering her grandchildren to be her greatest asset. She would call her son-in-law at all times, just to talk. She also loved her two dogs, Jackie and Ginger. She enjoyed gardening, decorating for the holidays, and margaritas. She listened to country music, but because she had become hard of hearing, everyone around her listened to it too.
She is survived by her daughter: Katherine Noland of Gardendale; son: Jerod Todd of Arlington: two brothers: Danny Terrell and Damon Terrell, both of Arlington, and three grandchildren: Maddison Dunn, Chase Dunn, and Natalie Dunn.
Her husband, Thomas Edward Hamby, Jr. preceded her in death on March 7, 2006. Her parents also precede her in death.
Memorial services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Matt Wilson. Interment will take place at the Dallas-Ft. Wanda Janice Christesson went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Medical Center Hospital at the age of 72. She was a longtime Odessa resident, currently residing at Seabury Center. She was born in Snyder, TX on August 28, 1937 to Leonard Leroy Greenfield and Velma Ruby (Yarborough) Greenfield. She married Johnnie Lynn Christesson on May 11, 1956 in Goldsmith, TX. They shared almost forty-four years together before separated by his death in January of 2000. They raised three children and she always kept her belt handy for the boys, knowing exactly how and when to employ the “Mama look”.
She was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church and a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Janice was an artist; loving crafts, quilting and painting. She painted oil portraits and wildlife and was especially partial to landscapes and painted them until pain in her arms prevented it. She was a skilled listener and confidant; the person to talk to. She was not a mother-in-law to Mollie and Honey, but a Mom.
Those left to cherish her love and memory include her children: Juana Christesson, Mike and Mollie Christesson, and Jon and Honey Christesson; eight grandchildren: Michael, Cathy, Shalina, Isaac and Serah, J.J., Jesse, and Peter; two great-grandchildren: Taylor and Bethany; brother: Troy Greenfield and wife Peggy; and sister-in-law: Doris Archer, all of Odessa.

She is survived by four daughters: Enedina Sanchez, Trinidad Alvarado, and Marina Lozano, all of Odessa, and Elsa Armendarez of Presidio; three sons: Salvador Tavarez, Jesus Jose Tavarez, and Jimmy Tavarez, all of Odessa; one sister: Amanda Hernandez Galindo of Presidio; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Her parents: Mathnis and Estanislad Hernandez; husband: Salvador H. Tavarez; son: Juan Manuel Tavarez; and daughter: Rosa Elva Grado; all precede her in death.
