Maverick David Trantham
God blessed Kenneth and Nancy Trantham the day he brought their baby boy, Maverick David Trantham, into this world on September 21, 2007.  For some reason that remains unknown to us all, God called him back home on January 10, 2008.  There are no words that can be spoken that can ease the grief or lessen the heartache suffered at his passing.  The void he has left behind will be felt for many years to come.  He took a part of us back to Heaven with him and he will remain a constant presence in our hearts until we meet again.

Maverick was a descendant of the Lower Elwha Tribe.

Maverick David Trantham of Port Angeles, Washington, leaves behind his parents: Kenneth and Nancy Trantham of Port Angeles, Washington; his big sister:  McKenzie Trantham of Port Angeles, Washington; his grandparents:  Roberto and Susan Coronel of Ensenada, Mexico and David and Sandra Trantham of McAlester, Oklahoma; several aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, TX.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.

Doris Mae Lambert

Doris Mae Lambert passed from this life Monday, January 14, 2008 at her Odessa residence at the age of 84.  She was born Monday, May 14, 1923 in Goodwell, Texas County, Oklahoma to Seldon John Prewett and Flora Mae (Welch) Prewett.  She was a homemaker; a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.  She also worked for more than 20 years in restaurants in Portales and Carlsbad.  Prior to coming to Odessa to live with her daughter, she was a resident of Eunice for many years. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her love and memories include her sons:  Yale Squibb of Portales and Lester Squibb of Midland; three daughters:  Laura Jane Blaes of El Paso, TX, Thelma Rae Schweizer of Rocky Ford, CO, and Mary Thurman of Odessa; one sister:  Rose Patillo of Wellston, OK, seven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents:  Seldon and Flora Prewett, two brothers:  Harold Prewett and John Henry Prewett, two sisters: Eunice Prewett and Esther Lehman, and one daughter:  Carol Ann Weibe.

Graveside services will be 10:00 pm Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Hartville Cemetery in Hardesty, OK officiated by Brother John Lyons.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.

Ralph Darrel Russell

Ralph Darrel Russell, age 71, passed from this life Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas. He was born Sunday, February 16, 1936 in Blackwell, Nolan County TX to R.C. and Sadie (Greathouse) Russell.

Ralph was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He worked as a construction contractor building homes.

Those left to cherish his love and memory include his daughter:  Rebecca Griffin and husband Ross of Odessa, TX; one brother:  Bob Russell of Carlsbad, NM; three sisters:  Gerri Mullins of Abilene, TX, Jean Singleton of Portales, NM, and Marjorie Merritt of Roswell, NM; six grandchildren:  James, Tony, Justin, John, Jennifer, and Josh; and three great-grandchildren:  Nick, Johnathon, and Noah.  Noah was his newest grandbaby.  Although he never got to hold him, he was very excited about him and admired him in pictures.                      

Open visitation will be 8:00 am to 8:00 pm today at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa.  Memorial services in Odessa are 2:00 pm, Monday, January 21, 2008 at Dayspring Assembly of God Church officiated by Pastor Pauletta Beaver.  Interment will be at Portales Cemetery following funeral services held in Portales, NM.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Wheeler Funeral Home in Portales.

William L. “Skip” Lewis

William L. “Skip” Lewis, age 60, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sunday, August 17, 1947 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, TX to William and Ada Francis (Bridges) Lewis.

Skip was a US Army veteran.  He was a truck driver for Rike Hot Shot.

Those left to cherish his love and memory include his wife:  Laura Ellen Wiley of Hattieville, AR; five daughters:  Dana Hinton of Natalia, TX, Nanette Trask of Wichita, KS, Laura Thomas of Houston, AR, Anna Thrush of Odessa, and Tonya Shackelford of Pearsall, TX; one son:  William L. “Willie” Lewis of Odessa; two brothers:  Vic Sylvester and Robert Dodge, both of Odessa; sister:  Jerry Rainey of Stockton, CA; twenty-three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.                          

Funeral services will be 4:00 pm Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel officiated by Brother Dewey Blevins.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Robert Flores

Robert Flores, age 32, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Thursday, March 27, 1975 in Midland to Enrique Flores and Irma Cruz.

Robert was a good man.  He was employed as a forklift operator by Tuboscope.  He had recently had back surgery and had been looking forward to being back home – back with his children and his roosters, and back at work.  He was improving and ready to walk again.

Those left to cherish his love and memory include his three sons:  Issac Flores, Jacob Garza and Freddie Garza, all of Odessa; one daughter:  Brandi Flores of Odessa; the mother of his children:  Veronica Garza of Odessa; his father: Enrique Flores and wife Connie of Midland; his mother:  Irma Cruz and husband Kevin Klutts of Odessa; grandmother:  Natividad Cruz of Odessa; and his sister:  Yolanda Flores of Odessa.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Moises Cruz.                         

Funeral services are 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Pastor Humberto Porras officiating. Interment will follow at Los Angeles Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Sandra Gustavus

Sandra Gustavus passed away January 19, 2008 at Sienna Care Center in Odessa at the age of 74. She was born Monday, December 18, 1933 to Christopher and Elizabeth (Howard) Gustavus in New York City, New York. 

She graduated from the Queens College of New York.  She was active in the West Texas Twilight Vision Support Group and the director of the ACBT.  She also enjoyed her membership in book club.  She was employed doing a variety of jobs throughout her life including work with a construction company and working in investment research.

She is survived by her loving sister:  Shirley Edwards of Odessa and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, officiated by Pastor Mueller.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Charles E. Martin

Charles E. Martin, beloved husband, daddy, granpa and child of the King left his place on earth January 19, 2008, to go home to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ.

In Heaven, he met with family members who had gone before:  parents Tiny and Fred Martin; sister Freda Maynard; father-in-law Montie Bunch; brothers-in-law Kenny Bunch and Larry Moore; and sister-in-law Linda Robertson.

Charles worked for 14 years in City of Odessa Engineering.  He retired from TxDot in 2004 after 10 years.  In 2007, he taught contract bidding classes in TxDot district offices.  Nancy traveled with him and they enjoyed their many trips.

Charles loved God, his family and his church, Chapel Hill Baptist.  Two of his favorite things to do, besides fishing, were singing and acting at the Globe, Permian Playhouse and MCT.  He was Jacob in “Joseph” and Grandfather in “Ragtime”.  A few of his favorite plays were “Kiss Me Kate”, “Shadowlands”, “Miracle on 34th Street”, and plays in which his grandson Jon joined him.  He admired Kathryn and Anthony at the Globe and enjoyed working with them.  Any play with Caitlyn, Courtney and Caleb were fun plays, too.  He was also on the board of, and worked with, the Brand New Opree for several years.

Charles was a Past Master of Fellowship Masonic Lodge and an eight time Past Patron of Floyd Easterling #1074 OES chapter.

Charles and Nancy Bunch Martin celebrated their 50th anniversary April 18, 2007, reliving a lifetime of love and memories with their family.  He loved her from the moment he dreamed of her, so when he finally met her, Charles proposed to Nancy the same weekend.

Left to cherish his memory and carry on along with his wife, Nancy, are daughters:  Sheree & Keith Buice and Tracie & Johnny Murray; son Terry Martin, grandchildren:  Maleah & Daniel Gasser, and Nathan Buice, Eric & Memory Murray, Chris Murray, Jon Murray, Elizabeth & Michael Gray, Daniel & Ashton Martin, Tim Martin, Jessica Martin, David Martin; seven great-grandchildren (and expecting two more), Elijah Gasser, Carson, Lexi, and Alyssa Murray, CeeJai and Damien Martin, Joey Martin, Mother-in-law Idabelle Bunch, and her children Ronnie Bunch, Sue & Howard Buller, and Kathy & Robert Perry.

Charles was diagnosed with lung cancer late in October.  He passed away due to carcinoma metastasis of the liver.  He and his family want to thank Dr. Michael Shelton for his caring, help, and support during his health battles.

Charles witnessed to his children and grandchildren before leaving because he wanted to make sure his family was reunited in Heaven one day.

Family visitation will be January 22, 2008, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  A celebration of his life will be held at Chapel Hill Baptist, January 23, 2008 at 10:30 am.  There will be no graveside or burial service in Odessa.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Socorro R. "Joe" Lopez
Socorro R. "Joe" Lopez, age 65, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at his residence in Odessa.  He was an oilfield laborer and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.  He was born February 7, 1942 in Mexico.
Joe is survived by three sons:  Jorge Lopez of Odessa, Francisco Lopez of Midland, and Mario Lopez of Grand Prairie, TX; one step-son:  Ruben Guzman; two daughters:  Carmen Lopez of San Angelo, TX and Yvette Lopez of Abilene, TX; three step-daughters:  Maricela Guzman of Dallas, TX and Becky Guzman and Diana Contreras, both of Odessa; and numerous grandchildren.
Rosary will be said 7 pm Tuesday,  January 22, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd., in Odessa.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Bernardito Getigan officiating.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden section of Ector County Cemetery.

Wendell Jay Kimbrough Jr.

Wendell Jay Kimbrough Jr., age 41, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Odessa Regional Medical Center. He was born January 17, 1967 in Rotan, TX to Wendell Jay Kimbrough Sr. and Earline (Rhodes) Kimbrough.

Jay graduated from Odessa High School.  He loved plants and enjoyed working at Wolf’s Nursery.  He was a loving son and kind and outgoing person who was loved by all.  He never met a stranger and had many friends.

Those left to cherish his love and memory include his parents:  Wendell and Earline Kimbrough of Odessa; maternal grandmother:  Estelle Rhodes of Seminole, TX; sister:  Leann Lummus and husband Danny of Springtown, TX; two nephews: Timothy Lummus and Joshua Lummus and one niece:  Christine Lummus, all of Springtown, TX; cousins:  Glenn Martin, Joshua Martin, Angel Martin and Melissa Galloway, all of Odessa, and Wesley Galloway of Big Spring; Aunts and Uncles:  Terry Kimbrough and wife Tressa of Odessa, Earl Rhodes and family of Sacramento, CA; Billy Rhodes and family of Pittsburg, CA; Earnest Rhodes and family of Odessa; James Rhodes and family of Lubbock, TX; and Lurline Combs of Seminole, TX; many more cousins and aunts; and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his Pa-Pa Rhodes, and Pa-Pa and Ma-Ma Kimbrough.

The family would like to thank everyone who has been so helpful and supportive during this difficult time.  Special thanks go out to the Radiation Department at the Cancer Center and David and Kathy Davidson and family for all that they have done.

Ronald Glenn Cvik

Ronald Glenn Cvik, age 69, passed away Monday, January 21, 2008. He was born Saturday, March 19, 1938 in Binghamton, NY to John and Nina (Hollenbeck) Cvik.

Ron was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as a jet mechanic. He graduated from Sul Ross State University Police Academy and received his teacher certification from Southwest State University. He served as a Constable and Deputy Sheriff for Upton County. He taught auto mechanics for Ft. Stockton ISD, McCamey ISD, Ector County ISD, Rankin ISD, and Kermit ISD. He is a member of Texas Retired Teacher’s Association. He had dual lifetime membership in the Oil City Masonic Lodge #1256 AF & AM and the Kermit Lodge #1258 AF & AM and had served both lodges as Master. He was a 32nd degree Suez Shriner out of San Angelo and a member of the Scottish Rite out of El Paso. He was a NRA member, a gun enthusiast, and an avid reloader. He was also involved in VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) and IHMSA (International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association). He loved to ride his Harley and spend time on the open road. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Wilshire Park Baptist Church of Midland.

Those left to cherish his love and memory include his wife of 31 years:  Nancy Cvik of Midland; two sons: John and Sally Cvik of Horizon City, TX and Ryan and Karen Cvik of Springfield, VA and; five daughters: Deborah and Pat Satterfield of Central City, CO;  Pixie and Paul Avila, Nina and Rene Fonseca, Patty and Jorge Chavez, all of El Paso, TX; and Rebecca and Mark Woolsey of Midland, TX; two brothers: Martin Simielo and Diana, and Eugene Cvik, both of Owego, NY; seventeen grandchildren:  Monique Tonya Marquez, Candace Jade Chavez, Amanda Lee Chavez, Patrick Lee Satterfield, Daniel Wade Satterfield, Christopher Lynn Satterfield, Samantha Marie Cvik, Christopher Paul Avila, Joshua John Cvik, Richard Varela, Ashley Renee Alvarez, Erica Michelle Fonseca, Adrian Rene Fonseca, Clinton Ross Woolsey, Jeannine Marie Woolsey, Luke Carson Woolsey, and Ryan Grant Cvik; and five great-grandchildren: Jacqueline Monique Valdez, Noemi Ann Satterfield, Dakota Lee Satterfield, Xoie Rae Satterfield, and Dorsey Patrick Satterfield II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his adopted mother, Ruby Marie Stone, his son, Ronald Glenn Cvik, Jr, his brother, Terry Cvik, and his sister, Grace Cvik.

Johnny Luker
Johnny Luker, age 50, passed away Monday, January 21, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born Sunday, May 12, 1957 in Odessa to Levi and Shirley (Rogers) Luker.  He was a floor hand at a machine shop.
He is survived by his mother:  Shirley Rogers Luker, one brother:  James Luker, and one sister:  Jazan Hampton, all of Odessa.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Luker Family Cemetery in Comanche, Texas.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
