Mary Laverne Womack

Mary Laverne “Sis” Womack, long time resident of Odessa went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 23, 2007. She was born Sunday, April 4, 1937 in Direct, Lamar County, Texas to Troy and Cora (Hampton) Roberson.

Mary married the love of her life, Bert Womack in April of 1959 in Fort Stockton. The moved to Farmington, NM before settling in Odessa in 1986. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed being around her friends and family. She loved cooking and taking care of her family. Mary was known by many as “Sis”.

Those left behind to cherish her love and memories are her husband, Bert Womack of Odessa, three daughters, Terry Millington of Granbury, TX, Jackie Beatty of Lamesa, TX and Dianne Tobias of Odessa, her mother, Cora Roberson of Seagraves, TX, three brothers, Travis Roberson of Seagraves, TX and James Roberson and Robbie Roberson both of Hobbs, NM, two sisters, Joyce Hodley of Olla, LA and Sally Shuffield of Odessa. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Troy Roberson, one son, Danny Womack and one sister, Josephine Carnell.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am, Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Grandview Church of God with Pastor Charles Shuffield officiating. Interment will follow at Seagraves Cemetery at 3:00 pm.

Cruz A. Dominguez

Cruz A. Dominguez passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born Saturday, October 11, 1952 in Juarez, Mexico to the late Cruz and Apolonio Aquino Dominguez.  He was a roughneck in the oilfield.

Those left to mourn his loss include his wife:  Reynalda Dominguez; one son:  Cruz Dominguez of Odessa; two daughters:  Juana Montanez and Iris Polvon, both of Odessa; three brothers:  Jesus Dominguez of Alto, VA, Eladio Rodriguez of Bearron, WI and Lorenzo Rodriguez of Juarez, Mexico; three sisters:  Lucia Dominguez of Juarez, Mexico; Remmedios Dominguez and Aurora Dominguez both of Durango, Mexico; and eleven grandchildren.

Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, April 30, 2007 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Pallbearers will include Brian Mulato, Chris Mulato, Valente Polvon, Jaime Montanez, Brandon Polvon, and Efren Salcido.  Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Margaret Ann (Box) West

Margaret Ann (Box) West, age 67 of Houston, Texas went to be with her Lord on April 28, 2007. Margaret was born August 20, 1939 in Roby, Texas to Chester and Mary (Mash) Box. She married Robert West in 1971 in Houston.


She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Preceding her in death was one son, Kevin Ray Thompson; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Pugh; her father, Chester Box and one sister, Earline Elrod. She graduated from Crane High School in the Class of 1957. Margaret’s career was spent working with Oil and Gas companies and she retired from Tortuga Operating Company in Houston.


Margaret is survived by her husband, Robert West of Houston; mother, Mary Box of Crane; brother, Billy Earl Box and sister-in-law, Jackie of Bayfield, Colorado; brother-in-law, A. L. Elrod of Odessa; one son, John Sullivan and daughter-in-law Cyndi Sullivan of Pearland, Texas; three granddaughters, Brandy Kay Pugh of Houston, Nicole Leigh Christopher of Dallas and Brooke Sullivan of Pearland. Margaret is survived by her special friend of many years, Beth Roman of Big Spring. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.


Graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in Crane, Texas at the Crane County Cemetery. Officiating will be Clydel Chapman, pastor of Northside Baptist Church of Odessa. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of west Odessa. Bobby Dene Crawford

Dene Crawford passed from this life Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Hospice House in Odessa.  He was born October 21, 1937 in Mosheim, TX.  He was a retired oilfield electrician.

Survivors include his sons:  Ricky Dean Crawford of Odessa and Steven Wesley Crawford of Abilene; four daughters:  Cynthia Jo Crawford, Kelly Lea Garcia, and Summer Laneice Crawford, all of Abilene and Debbie Kay Townley of Houston; one brother:  Don Crawford of Kermit; one sister:  Nellie Bea Douglas of Oregon; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Brother John Lyons officiating. A graveside service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Hope Cemetery in Henrietta, TX with Pastor Scott Townley officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.

Genevia Barner

Genevia Mae Barner, age 76 of Odessa peacefully passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, May 1, 2007. She was born Friday, March 6, 1931 in Brownwood, Brown County, TX to the late J.L. and Lela Mae (Purifoy) Johnson.

She was a licensed vocational nurse at the Medical Center Hospital emergency room.  She was a business lady, who had previously owned a ceramic shop and a restaurant.  Genevia also raised poodles.  She was a devout Christian, who mothered all of her neighborhood kids.  She was a loving mother, grandma “Nanny”, great-grandma, and friend.

Those left to cherish her love and memories include her husband: Roy Barner of Odessa; three sons:  Roy L. Barner and Doug Mathis, both of Odessa and Dean Dixon of Fredericksburg, TX; four daughters:  Peggy Mathis Sparhawk, Brenda Joyce Clank, Joyce Adams, and Patricia Gail Cerda, all of Odessa; two brothers:  Darrell Johnson of Weatherford, TX and LaValle Chastine of Brownwood; twenty grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Genevia was preceded in death by her parents:  J.L. Johnson and Lela Mae “Le Momma” Johnson.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa.  A graveside service will be 2 pm Friday, May 4, 2007 at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Tracie Lin Cheshire

Tracie Lin Cheshire, age 41, of Odessa passed away Monday, May 21, 2007 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born Wednesday, June 23, 1965 in Sacramento, Sacramento County, California to Alvan Bertram and Sharon Ann (Munch) Kennedy. 


She is survived by her grandmother: Tiezza Munch; husband, John Cheshire of Odessa; brothers:  Dennis Turner of Forestville, CA, Johnny Kennedy and Robert Kennedy both of Sacramento, CA; sisters:  Terry Turner of Crescent City, CA, Tina Turner and Kelly Turner both of Sacramento, CA..


Memorial services will be held in California at a later date.

Donald "Don" Victor Karpinski

Donald "Don" Victor Karpinski, age 63, passed away Sunday, May 06, 2007 @ 12:25 p.m. in the care of Hospice House in Odessa, Texas after a short stay but long battle with cancer. He was born Wednesday, May 19, 1943, in Greenville South Carolina as Charles Lee Gravely.


Don was an over the road truck driver known as "The Jolly Pollock" and a security guard for Family Dollar Distribution Center in Odessa.


He was preceded in death by his Mother, Annie Louise "Shorty" Gravely Case, adoptive parents, William R. & Leoma Wheeler Karpinski, a son William "Bill" T. Karpinski and a sister Judith Karpinski Korp.


He is survived by two daughters, Sarah E. Dutton and husband, Patrick, of Ceres VA and Jessica L. Karpinski-Boggs and husband, Michael Ocklawaha, Fl., two sons, John D. Karpinski, of New Port Richy, Fl., and Mark D. Karpinski of Richland Hills, Texas, five grand sons Terry Dutton and Chase Six both of Ceres VA.; Dewayne Karpinski, Scott Karpinski and Joey Boggs all of Ocklawaha, Florida and two grand daughters Jamie Karpinski and Makaeya Karpinski both of Richland Hills, TX. He is also survived by nine step-children twenty-five step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.


Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, TX. will be receiving and preparing his body for donation to the Will Body Program through the Health Science Center of Texas Tech University. No service or viewing will be held at this time.


Dolores June Beeson

Dolores Beeson departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. She entered this life, Wednesday, February 26, 1947 in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas to the late John and Katherine (White) Christian.

She married John Beeson in 1973 in Odessa. Together they owned and operated Beeson Insurance for the past 30 years. Dolores was a member of the Faith Community Baptist Church and was very active in the Permian Basin Food Bank organization as well as the Food Bank at the church. She enjoyed visiting nursing homes and helping anyone in need. Dolores also loved the outdoors and animals.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are one daughter, Wendy Gardenhire and husband, Greg of Odessa, two grandchildren, Brittani and Maci Gardenhire also of Odessa. Dolores also leaves behind a host of friends who helped her in the past years; Mildred Rawls, Nell Luedecke, Mary Oman, Kathy Lightfoot and Eralda and Brenda at Beeson Insurance. Last but not least, Mandy, her K-9 companion.

Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Beeson in 1989 and numerous aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Friday, Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Faith Community Baptist Church with Brother Wayne Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Faith Community Baptist Church Food Bank.

Jose Alfonzo Orosco
Jose Alfonzo Orosco, age 18, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at his residence in Midland. He was a landscaper.
Survivors are his father, Adam Orosco of Amarillo, Mother Diane Terry and Step Father Joseph Terry of Midland, Maternal Grandmother, Lilly Gamboa of Midland, one brother Adam Orosco, Jr of Midland and one sister, Elida Orosco of Midland
Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, May 21, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa. Interment will follow at Western Roses Memorial Park in Midland County.

Michael Keith “Mike” Fleming

Michael Keith Fleming passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 18, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Thursday, July 2, 1964 in Houston to James Keith and Reba Laura (Haley) Fleming.

A resident of Odessa for most of his life, Mike was employed as an auto mechanic at Sewell Chevrolet in Crane. He was considered an A-1 mechanic and would jump to help anyone at need. He enjoyed fishing and camping, but, motorcycles and Nascar were his favorite hobbies. Mike married the love of his life, Pamela Lee King in January 2007 and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife, Pamela Ann Fleming of Odessa, one son, Clinton Fleming and one daughter, Michelle Fleming both of Midland, two step-sons, Jason Secrest and William King, IV, two step-daughters, Crystal Kluting and Michelle McDonald all of Odessa, one sister, Joann Fleming of Midland, two step-sisters, Lyn Sanders of Stinnett, TX and Mary Sitton of Wellington, TX. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Glenda Presley of Odessa.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Angenend.

Pallbearers are Kenneth Lee, Kevin Lee, Henry Lee, Russel King, Michael Secrest and Joshua Felkins. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Roach and Patrick Barrandey.

Funeral Service is scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family wishes thank everyone who expressed their love and concern during this time. We appreciate all the food, flowers, visits, telephone calls, cards, kind words and extra efforts put forth by friends and family. We are very grateful.

Raymond Thomas Knapp, Sr.

Raymond Thomas Knapp, Sr. age 61, passed away at his residence in Odessa on Tuesday, May 22, 2007.  He was born Tuesday, June 12, 1945 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas to the late Thomas Edison and Florence Oma (DeArman) Knapp.  He was a heavy equipment operator. 

Raymond is survived by one son:  Raymond Knapp, Jr of Odessa; one daughter:  Belinda Salyer of Brownwood; four brothers:  John Knapp of Abilene, James Knapp of Ennis, TX, and George Knapp and Kenneth Knapp, both of Cleburne, TX; his favorite aunt:  Freddie Wilson of Waco, TX; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

His parents and sister, Ramona preceded him in death.

Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Odessa 2:00 pm Friday, May 25, 2007.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.

George Felipe Borunda

George F. Borunda, 56, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007 in Converse, TX, where he resided with his daughter, Shawna Borunda Aycock.  George, born Dec. 21, 1950 in Calexico, CA, to George B. Borunda and Beatrice Borunda, will be reunited in Heaven with the love of his life, Margaret Ann Borunda who passed before him on November 30, 1997.

George resided in Southern CA until 1982, when he moved his family to Odessa in order to go to work in the West TX oilfields.  Unfortunately, there were no oilfield jobs to be had at that time, so he went to work at the Odessa American, where he delivered papers for several years.  In 1993, he moved Mom and the Girls back to Southern CA where he went to work for the California Dept. of Corrections, where he began a 10 year career as a corrections officer, a job he was extremely proud of.  In 1997, Ann passed away and shortly thereafter he returned to Odessa to live with his daughters.  He worked for Capstar Drilling for a short time before becoming ill and was forced to retire and become a full time grandpa.  He moved with his daughter and her family to Converse, TX in 2006, where he was currently residing when he passed away from natural causes.  At his time of passing he was in his bed at home where he wanted to be when it was time to go “Home” and see Momma again. 

George left behind to cherish his memory both of his parents, George B. Borunda of Indio, CA and Beatrice Borunda of Cathedral City, CA.  He also left two daughters:  Shawna Borunda Aycock and husband Clovis of Converse, TX and Erin Borunda Dawson and husband Brandon of Odessa, TX; one son:  Georgie Borunda of Blythe, CA; one step-daughter,  Lynda Matthews of Odessa, TX and one step-son, Sonny Ray Matthews and wife Jennifer of Hope, NM.  Among his children he left behind 15 grandchildren.  Also surviving George are six brothers:  Richard Borunda of Salinas, CA, Alex Borunda of Cathedral City, CA, Alfred Borunda, David Borunda, Frank Borunda, and Phillip Borunda, all of Coachella, CA.  He leaves four sisters as well:   Anita Espinoza of Indio, CA, Mary Ann Borunda of Palm Springs, CA, Graciela Borunda of San Jose, CA and Yolanda Borunda of Desert Hot Springs, CA.  He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. 

There will be visitation for George at Acres West Funeral Chapel 8115 West University Blvd. in Odessa, TX on Tuesday, May 29th and Wednesday May 30th.  There will be a graveside service with military honors on Thursday, May 31st at 10:00 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Brother Roy Jones officiating, where George will be laid to rest beside his wife, who has patiently awaited his arrival into Heaven to join her.  “Daddy, give Momma our love and kisses.  We will see you both soon.  May you finally be free of pain and rest in peace.”

Maria M. Flores

Maria Flores, age 81 of Marfa passed from this life Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Hospice House in Odessa, TX.  She was born Saturday, November 14, 1925 on El Rancho Ochoa in Presidio County to the late Anastacio and Rita (Hernandez) Madrid.  She was a homemaker.

Maria is survived by nine children, five sons and four daughters.  They are:  Alfredo Flores, Homer Flores, Hector Flores, and Delia Magallanez, all of Odessa, Jesus Flores Jr. of Presidio, Eric Flores of Austin, Olga Miller of El Paso, Olivia Barker of Marfa, and Aurora Tarango of Amarillo.  She is also survived by two brothers:  Jose Madrid of El Paso and Juan Madrid of Lubbock; one sister:  Manuela Robles of Tahoka; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anastacio and Rita Madrid, and her husband, Jesus Flores, who passed away March 17, 1999.

Visitation will be Friday and Saturday, May 25 and 26, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa. Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Sunday evening, May 27, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marfa.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Monday, May 28, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at La Merced Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.
